CUSTODIAN

Part-time. $15 an hour. Paid time off. Free museum tickets and discounts. The purpose of this position is to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of USSRC buildings, facilities and grounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

1. Custodial Systems Meet or exceed the expectations of the Custodial Manager for the cleanliness and appearance of Rocket Center buildings, facilities, and grounds. Work includes, but is not limited to:
   1. Sweep, wax, vacuum, and shampoo floors throughout the Rocket Center.
   2. Clean office and common area windows.
   3. Clean and dust the Rocket Center’s internal and external exhibits.
   4. Collect trash and refuse from offices and grounds.
2. Use a pressure washer to clean sidewalks and buildings.
3. Move and transport various equipment, materials, and waste promptly.
4. Ensure that the Custodial department has adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
5. Meet or exceed legal, industry, and professional standards for the use and disposal of cleaning chemicals and waste.
6. Safely and efficiently operate the lift loft following written policies.
7. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Custodial Management team for the accurate and timely completion of tasks and assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Experience

• No experience is necessary - this is a will-train position.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The Custodian is a physically demanding position. It has the following special requirements:

Physical Requirements

• Standing, walking, and climbing stairs for up to 8 hours.
• Carrying, and lifting supplies and items weighing up to 40 pounds to waist height.
• Bending, kneeling, reaching to store and retrieve supplies, cleaning high, and low areas, behind exhibits, etc.
• Inspecting, visually and physically, areas for cleanliness.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees and guests.
• Working directly with cleaning chemicals such as bleach and floor stripper.
• Operating medium-weight cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, sweeping and mopping floors.
• Moving desks and furniture.

Eligibility Qualifications

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Factors

• Work in a climate-controlled building environment, exposed to noisy and dusty areas.
• Work with dangerous and toxic cleaning products.
• Work includes cleaning up blood, saliva, and other bodily fluids that are unpleasant to deal with.
• This position may also involve working outside in various weather conditions.

Expected Hours of Work
Shifts are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 4 p.m. to midnight, and 12 noon to 8 p.m.
