Role Description
The Part-Time Education Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of educational programs at the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame / Carver Theatre. This role serves as the lead for all educational programming, ensuring that programs align with the organization’s mission, celebrate the legacy of jazz, and provide meaningful learning experiences for students, educators, and the community.
Working closely with the Executive Director, the Education Coordinator will develop, implement, and evaluate programs that are engaging, culturally relevant, and impactful, while ensuring alignment with the Alabama Jazz Curriculum and the organization’s mission.
General Accountabilities:
- Lead the development, planning, and execution of all educational programs and initiatives
- Ensure all programming aligns with the mission and strategic goals of the organization
- Design and implement engaging, standards-informed educational experiences for students of all ages
- Manage and oversee existing programs, including workshops, school partnerships, camps, lectures, and community outreach initiatives
- Evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements to ensure quality and impact
- Serve as the primary point of contact for educators, schools, teaching artists, and community partners
- Recruit, coordinate, and manage teaching artists, clinicians, and program facilitators
- Assist with curriculum materials and develop educational resources that reflect jazz history, culture, and artistic expression
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on program strategy, growth, and funding opportunities
- Assist in identifying and supporting grant opportunities related to education and community engagement
- Track program participation, outcomes, and reporting metrics
- Manage program budgets and ensure responsible use of resources
- Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and communication for all educational activities
- Represent the organization at community events, school visits, and outreach opportunities
- Support marketing efforts by providing program content, descriptions, and materials
- Maintain strong relationships with local schools, colleges, and community organizations
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, art education, studio art, music, arts administration, or a related field
- 2 years of experience in arts education, program management, or nonprofit programming
- Demonstrated experience in arts education, program coordination, or nonprofit programming
- Knowledge of jazz history and culture
- Strong understanding of arts foundations and educational practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple programs and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience working with diverse communities, students, and educators
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills
- Familiarity with standards-based education practices (state or national arts standards)
- Experience developing curriculum or educational content
- Experience working with musicians, teaching artists, or cultural institutions
- Background in jazz studies, music education, or performing arts
- Experience with program evaluation and data tracking
- Grant writing or grant support experience
Work Schedule:
- This is a part-time position
- Schedule may include weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends based on program needs
- Hours will vary depending on program schedules, events, and planning cycles
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move materials and supplies for programs (up to 25–30 pounds)
- Ability to stand and engage actively during programs and events
- Ability to travel locally for school and community-based programming
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
