ABOUT THE ROLE

AIDB provides a continuum of services to individuals from infancy through adulthood. AIDB Interpreters provide interpreting services, sign language instruction, and community education workshops and training sessions from Early Intervention to Senior Services. They interpret for individuals and groups in legal, business, medical, personal, and/or service delivery settings within AIDB and the community. The Director of Interpreting Services will provide centralized interpreting coordination and interpreter supervision and mentorship in tandem with the Unit Head for which the interpreters are housed. The Director of Interpreting Services will secure interpreting service agreements and vendor contracts and facilitate internal and external training, partnerships and trainings. As Director of Interpreting Services, you will maintain an interpreting database and facilitate interpreter scheduling, billing, and payroll. You may also be asked to interpret when needed. This position will be part of AIDB’s Office of Accessibility and will report to the Chief of Adult Programs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess and maintain Alabama Interpreter’s License and national certification upon employment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to interpreting.
  • Must possess an entry sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED PLUS according to AIDB evaluation system (SLPI/SCPI) upon hire.
  • Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation available through AIDB.
  • Possess a valid driver license, an automobile for use on the job, and liability insurance in effect.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three (3) years or more of formal work experience interpreting for individuals who are Deaf/DeafBlind.
  • Three (3) years or more of formal work experience coordinating interpreters for individuals who are Deaf/DeafBlind.
  • One (1) to Two (2) years of supervisory experience and/or building a team.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing to travel daily.
  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules to include holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Assist in planning and participating in statewide activities, i.e., White Cane, DeaFestival, Special Projects, Summer Camps, educational workshops, social/community events, and/or statewide programs.
  • Enter current consumer information into a database as needed for consumer demographics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by AIDB Chief of Adult Programs and AIDB President.

· Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

SALARY: $75,000 - $100,000 Scale A1 Rank 04

260 Days; Direct deposit is required; bi-weekly payroll

This position is eligible for the following annual incentives.

Specialization Incentive Pay

RID Recognized Certification $5,000

Mental-Health-Q $2,500

Legal (SC: L), Other $2,500

This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act
