POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- In the last five years, the applicant must have spent at least two years on a job that required standing, walking, crouching, and climbing for long periods of time.
- Must possess a valid Alabama Drivers License and be eligible to be insured by AIDB insurance carriers.
- Must present a positive public image.
- Must have good interpersonal skills.
- Must possess good communication skills.
- Able to use desktop/laptop/portable computer and smartphones efficiently.
- Must be able to engage and communicate with all levels of management and staff.
- Must be able to follow instructions.
- Must be highly self-motivated.

- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule when required, including nights, weekends, and travel.
- Must attend the Beginner Locksmith Class, pass the test, and obtain certification through The Alabama Locksmith Association within the first (24) months of employment.
- Must receive CPR first aid certification within the first (12) months of employment.
- A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (24) months of employment.
- Must maintain recurrent certifications.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- 3-5 years of experience in the appropriate technical field preferred.
- Access control Technician who specializes in the diagnosis and repair of electric strikes, electronic panic hardware, electromechanical locks, and magnetic locks is preferred.
- Certified Licensed Locksmith certified by the Association of Locksmiths of America.
- Knowledge of job-related software associated with electronic hardware is preferred.
- Ability to key and rekey standard and master key systems is preferred.
- Ability to generate and or expand a bitting list is preferred.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interprets Master Keying Guide; uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of the institution’s master key system while meeting customer requests.
- Provides assistance during renovation of existing or construction of new facilities by determining the requirements for locking devices and systems from blueprints, schematics, or sketches, making recommendations for such systems based upon knowledge of available products, and installing or monitoring the installation of locking devices or systems on renovated or newly constructed facilities.
- Working knowledge of applicable code requirements, including those regulations pertaining to fire exits and door hardware.
- Installs, services, and repairs various types of locks and security devices.
- Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures.
- Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
- Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.
- Issues keys and maintains records of keys issued and returned.
- Maintains records of work performed.
· Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
· Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains both mechanical locking and access control systems.
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
· Must be able to continuously train and use new products and skills.
· Ability to install and maintain locks, related hardware, and key systems is necessary.
· Ability to use common hand tools, machine tools, and tools common to the locksmith trade is necessary.
· Work cooperatively with AIDB personnel to serve students.
· Participate in the required training sessions and workshops provided.
· Communicate directives clearly.
· Follow all AIDB rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
· Check buildings, doors, and facilities to ensure security.
· Communicate efficiently on two-way radios, cellular devices, and utilize email communications.
· Participate in in-service and professional development training and activities.
· Interact appropriately with clients, staff, students and families.
· Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
· Reports to Safety and Security Department Manager.
· Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check and CAN Investigation at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."
SALARY: $21.04-$25.54 per hour Scale C5 Rank 45
Annual salary based on hours scheduled to work each academic school year.
Direct deposit is required.
