As an IEP Coordinator for Helen Keller School (HKS), you will be responsible for assisting with the creation and implementation of IEPs, reevaluations, and amendments for preschool-age through age 21, Deaf/HH students. The IEP coordinator will utilize IDEA guidelines and Alabama Department of Education compliance recommendations to help establish high-quality and compliant IEPs. You will assist with the development of IEPs in all required areas; coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings; provide assistance and content training, and work closely with all administrators, teachers, staff, and specialists on HKS Campus. Specifically, you will work in tandem with HKS’s academic director and AIDB’s Special Education Coordinator. You will perform end-of-year reports as required by the state. You will also assume some teaching responsibilities as needed and designated by the Principal. The right candidate for this job will have a passion for working with students and colleagues to ensure all students receive a world-class education.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
  • Must hold a valid Alabama teaching certificate or valid certification in another state with ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of hire date.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a teacher or administrator in a Special Education environment.
  • Professional experience with writing IEP and the evaluation process
  • Must be physically able to travel to identified and/or requested locations in Alabama and throughout the United States.
  • Must be able to independently communicate effectively in person and in writing.
  • Professional experience writing and developing reports using data collected.
  • Professional experience with presentations.
  • May be required to have a valid driver's license and be eligible to be insured by AIDB insurance carriers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Work history that demonstrates familiarity with AIDB units, and local, state, and national organizations/agencies.
  • Knowledge of curriculum that can be used to teach and progress monitor students who are deaf, blind, deaf/blind or multi disabled.
  • Experience with PowerSchool Special Programs and Special Education
Position Requirements:
  • A sign language proficiency level of Survival Plus according to the AIDB evaluation system is required to be obtained within 36 months of employment.
  • Possess excellent leadership skills; good interpersonal skills; sound judgment, the ability to be creative and flexible; and exercise individual initiative.
  • Knowledge of the Alabama Administrative Code Requirements for the IEP/evaluation process.
  • Knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning education and programming.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in the education of individuals who have multiple disabilities, rehabilitation services, transition planning, and/or career development planning.
  • Must provide training for teachers in what data is needed to provide the IEP coordinator for IEP writing.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of methodologies used to educate individuals who are deaf, blind, deaf/blind and multi disabled.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain rapport with staff members, students, parents, alumni, public school personnel, AIDB, ADRS, employers, and others external to AIDB.
  • Must review all IEPs Pre-K – 12.
  • Monitor assessment information to ensure the appropriate disability area is identified according to the Alabama Administrative Code.
  • Must monitor eligibility reports to ensure dates are compliant with State and Federal requirements.
  • Must schedule, send notice of meeting to parents, acquire members to attend IEP meetings, and conduct all Pre-K - 12 IEP meetings.
  • Must make sure HKS is in compliance with State and Federal IEP guidelines.
  • Must work closely with AIDB’s Special Education Coordinator.
  • Must work closely with teachers making sure IEPs are being followed to fidelity.
  • Must work closely with teachers making sure all IEP goals are established appropriately.
  • Ability to motivate, align efforts, set goals, delegate and monitor effectively.
  • Must attend professional development training related to IEPs.
  • Must complete all AIDB required annual training. Including but not limited to, CPR, MCS, AED, Diabetic, Medication, Orientation training, mandatory reporting, Title 9, Jason Flatt Law, Erin’s Law, Orientation and Mobility Training, Bloodborne Pathogens, Policy and Procedure training,
  • Other duties assigned
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.

SALARY: $51,217.00 - $71,423.00 Scale E2, Rank 59 Bachelors Degree
$59,916.00 - $81,851.00 Scale E2, Rank 61 Masters Degree
