The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (ADFS) is a state-level agency dedicated to the application of science and medicine in the pursuit of justice. This is a full-time on-site role for a Medical Examiner, based in Auburn, AL. The Medical Examiner will perform duties including forensic autopsies, pathology examinations, and providing expert opinions on cause and manner of death for cases within the jurisdiction. Responsibilities include interpreting forensic evidence, preparing detailed reports, testifying in court as an expert witness, and collaborating closely with law enforcement and legal professionals to advance investigations.
- Expertise in Forensic Pathology and Forensic Medicine
- Proficient in Pathology and clinical Medicine
- Experience in performing Forensic Analysis
- Skilled in interpreting medical evidence and preparing detailed, accurate reports
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, unbiased testimony in court
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
- Board certification in Forensic Pathology (or eligibility to obtain certification)
- Licensure or eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Alabama
- Ability to work collaboratively in high-stress and sensitive environments
