Summary:
Under general supervision, responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive testing program.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Director of the Testing Services Center provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for all university and external testing programs. The AAMU Testing Services Center coordinates testing activities, supports academic departments with assessment initiatives, and disseminates score data to assist with advising, curriculum development, career education, and job placement. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, and discretion while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and national testing standards. The Director must possess strong coordination, analytical, and interpersonal skills, as well as knowledge of academic regulations and ADA testing accommodation requirements. As the certified site administrator for ACT, Pearson VUE, College Board, Accuplacer, and other national partners, the Director oversees daily operations to ensure test integrity, accessibility, and excellence in service delivery.

Examples of Duties

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervise, train, and evaluate testing center staff and student employees, including scheduling, delegating work, and approving timesheets.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the administration, proctoring, and scoring of all exams offered through the Testing Services Center.
  • Serve as the certified site administrator for ACT, Pearson VUE, College Board (CLEP, Accuplacer, Praxis, and TOEFL), ensuring compliance with all vendor and institutional requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage the delivery of 30 national and professional certification exams daily through Pearson VUE and other testing partners.
  • Oversee and manage university testing programs including Accuplacer placement testing, Major Field Tests, PAME, Department Comprehensive Exams, make-up exams, departmental exams, and assessments requiring accommodations.
  • Serves as Test Supervisor for all national, state, and local agency tests, such as ACT, CLEP, FPCP, GED, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, NEAS, NSAPQT, NTE, TOEFL, and PPST.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office of Accommodations and Accessibility Services to ensure equitable testing experiences for students requiring special testing accommodations (e.g., quiet space, noise-canceling equipment, dyslexia reading pen).
  • Partner with the Director of Freshman Academy to schedule and organize placement exams for new and current students.
  • Manage test scheduling, registration, and communication using RegisterBlast and other software platforms.
  • Ensure strict adherence to testing security procedures, confidentiality standards, and ethical practices in all test administration processes.
  • Develop and maintain policy manuals, training materials, and operational procedures for all testing activities.
  • Work collaboratively with academic departments, program chairs, and the Office of Institutional Planning, Research, and Effectiveness to collect, analyze, and report testing and assessment data.
  • Update and maintain CLEP score policies and related testing equivalency guidelines.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the university and testing agencies, coordinating audits, certifications, and renewals.
  • Participate in university committees, professional development workshops, and conferences relevant to testing, assessment, and academic services. Update and make available brochures on testing services.
  • Maintain testing software configurations, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure secure system performance.
  • Conducts sessions to assist students to reduce test anxiety and become test wise.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):


  • Master's degree in education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • One to three years of related experience with supervisory responsibilities in testing, assessment, or academic administration.
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a Pearson VUE Test Administrator and College Board Test Center Supervisor.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to plan, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate activities for the Testing Program.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of testing protocols, test security, and academic assessment procedures.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience with ACT, RegisterBlast, Pearson VUE, College Board platforms, and related testing software systems.
  • Analytical skills to compile, interpret, and present testing data for institutional decision-making.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and database systems; ability to install and configure software and troubleshoot system issues.
  • An understanding of ADA Testing Accommodation requirements.
  • Maintain Universities membership with National College Testing Association (NCTA)
  • Familiarity with grant writing and external funding for testing initiatives preferred.
