What are the responsibilities and job description for the Support Staff - ala Bethesda position at ala?
Day in the Life of the Service Backbone (Host Runner Busser)
You’re not “just support.”
You’re the reason the room flows, the reason tables turn clean, and the reason guests feel taken care of before they even know what they need. This role is movement, timing, awareness — and pride.
Pre-shift — Set the room to win
You check the floor, stock what’s low, polish what needs polishing, and make sure the space
looks sharp. You’re already thinking: How do we keep this smooth tonight?
Doors open — First impression starts with you
You greet guests with energy and control. You manage the pace, communicate waits clearly, and keep the front calm even when the room is filling fast. You’re not seating randomly — you’re building flow.
Service hits — You become the engine
Food is up. Drinks are running. Tables are turning.
You move with purpose:
running plates accurately and fast
clearing and resetting tables cleanly
refilling waters, restocking stations, resetting the room
keeping the lanes clear so the team can execute
You’re constantly scanning: what needs clearing, who needs help, what table is about to flip, what station is low, what’s slowing the room down.
Peak rush — Controlled chaos, clean execution
This is where pros show up. You don’t freeze. You don’t disappear.
You keep the machine moving: silent efficiency, quick hands, clean resets, strong
communication. When servers are in the weeds, you’re the difference between “barely
surviving” and “crushing service.”
Guest experience — Even when you’re not the one talking
You still deliver hospitality: a genuine hello, a quick assist, a calm presence. You move through the room like you belong there — because you do.
Close — Leave it better than you found it
You break down with discipline: sanitize, reset, stock, organize. You respect the next shift. You respect the room. You finish strong.
What you’ll do (the role, straight up)
Support the dining room flow: greet, run, clear, reset, restock
Run food and assist with timing so tables receive dishes as intended
Maintain cleanliness and readiness: tables, service stations, expo areas
Communicate clearly with managers, servers, kitchen, and bar
Help turn tables efficiently while keeping the space polished and guest-ready
Follow safety and sanitation standards at all times
What we’re looking for
Fast, focused, and dependable — you show up and you move
Clear communicator who takes direction well
Detail-obsessed: table numbers, pacing, cleanliness, timing
Comfortable in high volume with constant movement
Hospitality mindset — you care about the guest experience, always
Experience is a plus, but we’ll train the right person
The physical side (real talk)
Standing and moving for the full shift
Carrying trays, buss bins, glass racks, and supplies as needed
Working in a fast-paced environment around hot/cold areas and tight lanes
If you’re this person…
You don’t need the spotlight to take pride in the work. You like speed, structure, and being the
reason the team wins.
