Behavior‑Focused Teacher Aide

American Leadership Academy - Spanish Fork is currently accepting applications for a Behavior‑Focused Teacher Aide for the 2026-2027 school year for our campus located in Spanish Fork, Utah. Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check.

The Behavior‑Focused Instructional Assistant supports students who require additional behavioral, social‑emotional, or self‑regulation assistance in order to succeed in the school environment. Under the direction of a supervising teacher, psychologist, school administrator, or behavior specialist, the assistant implements behavior intervention plans, reinforces positive behavior strategies, collects data, and helps maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Behavior Support & Intervention

• Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) developed by teachers, school psychologists, or behavior specialists.
• Reinforce positive behavior strategies using school‑approved methods such as PBIS, social‑emotional coaching, and skill‑building routines.
• Provide de‑escalation support using trained techniques to help students regain emotional control.
• Assist students with self‑regulation, coping strategies, and social skills, both in structured lessons and in real‑time situations.
• Monitor student behavior and intervene appropriately to maintain safety and order.

Student Supervision & Safety

• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, lunchrooms, and other school settings to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
• Support students during transitions, helping them move safely and calmly between activities or locations.
• Assist with crisis situations, following school-wide protocols and reporting procedures.
• Escort or accompany students who require additional supervision or behavioral support.

Instructional & Classroom Support

• Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce academic and behavioral goals.
• Assist with classroom routines, helping maintain a structured and predictable environment.
• Support teachers in implementing accommodations and modifications for students with behavioral or emotional needs.
• Prepare instructional and behavior‑support materials as directed by the teacher or specialist.

Data Collection & Documentation

• Collect behavioral data, including frequency counts, duration tracking, ABC (Antecedent‑Behavior‑Consequence) notes, and progress monitoring.
• Document student behavior and interventions accurately and promptly for team review.
• Report observations, concerns, and incidents to supervising staff in accordance with district policy.

Collaboration & Communication

• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and behavior specialists to support student success.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development related to behavior support, safety procedures, and intervention strategies.
• Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs, progress, and safety concerns.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass applicable background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with students who have behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs.
• Training in school approved de‑escalation program.
• Experience collecting behavioral data or implementing intervention strategies.

Work Environment & Expectations:

• Regular, reliable attendance is essential.
• Requires physical ability to move quickly, supervise actively, and assist in crisis situations.
• May involve working with students who exhibit aggressive, disruptive, or emotionally escalated behaviors.
• Must maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies.
