AL Solutions is partnered with a rapidly growing global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) with a strong reputation in small molecule development, API manufacturing, and emerging modalities. Backed by significant investment and continued expansion across North America, they are seeking a Business Development Director to drive new business growth and strategic customer partnerships.
This is a high-impact commercial role focused on identifying and securing opportunities with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies requiring development and manufacturing support from preclinical through commercial stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan focused on small molecule and emerging modality opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with biotech, pharmaceutical, and virtual biotech organizations.
- Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities across drug substance development and manufacturing services.
- Lead client discussions, proposals, and contract negotiations in partnership with technical and operational teams.
- Collaborate with internal scientific and project management teams to develop tailored customer solutions.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, networking events, and customer meetings.
- Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs within the CDMO sector.
- Consistently achieve and exceed commercial growth objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline required.
- Proven Business Development experience within the CDMO, CMO, or pharmaceutical services industry.
- Strong network across biotech and pharmaceutical organizations, particularly within the small molecule space.
- Demonstrated success generating and closing new business opportunities.
- Strong understanding of drug development, API manufacturing, process chemistry, CMC activities, and pharmaceutical development workflows.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with scientific, operational, and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
- Experience selling small molecule development and manufacturing services.
- Exposure to emerging modalities such as peptides, oligonucleotides, complex chemistries, or related technologies.
- Existing relationships within the Boston/Cambridge biotech ecosystem.
- Experience working in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial commercial environment.
