Garden Center Associate

Garden Center Associates support the daily operations of the garden center by providing a lasting impression to customers through assisting with questions and plant advice, maintaining plants and product displays, and ensuring a clean, organized, and well-stocked environment. This role involves customer service, basic plant care, stocking, and merchandising duties.

• Provide and maintain an outstanding customer experience that can only be found at Al’s Garden and Home for all guests who enter the retail location.
• Assist customers with questions, product needs and product location which may include helping with customer order placement, special orders and scheduling deliveries.
• Ensure all products in your assigned area receive proper water, nutrients and plant maintenance.
• Observe plant material for quality assurance including disease and pest damage.
• Responsible for stocking, filling in product and keeping plants spaced appropriately to their growing habits and needs for all assigned areas.
• Ensure all retail items are signed and tagged appropriately and accurately.
• Assist with unloading delivery trucks at the receiving dock and inspect incoming orders for quality.
• Assist customers by carrying out products they have purchased to their vehicles and help load.
• Ensure shopping carts and wagons are in designated areas for customers to use.
• Perform special projects, general housekeeping, event setup and breakdown as needed.
• Develop knowledge of other departments to offer cross-departmental customer service.
• Embrace a safety culture of injury and accident prevention by following safety policies and procedures.
• Achieve daily goals as communicated by the store management.
• Assist with all other related tasks or duties as assigned by store management.
• Adhere to all company guidelines, policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of annuals, perennials, houseplants, trees and shrubs or the willingness to seek and learn product.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Knowledge of computer software: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
• Knowledge of POS system or willingness to learn.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work weekdays, evenings and weekends with overtime during busy peak seasons.

Physical Demands

This job requires the ability to work standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. continuously throughout the day.

Work Environment

This job can operate on the sales floor, indoor and outdoor, and in an office environment as business requires.
