K-4 Elementary School Teacher: Al-Manar Academy

Al-Manar Academy is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic K–4 Homeroom Teachers who are passionate about elementary education and committed to supporting students academically, socially, and spiritually.

Our homeroom teachers provide instruction in the core academic subjects, build positive classroom communities, maintain strong communication with families, and help students develop responsibility, confidence, good character, and a love of learning.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, nurturing, and able to maintain high expectations while responding patiently to the developmental needs of elementary-aged students.

Primary Responsibilities

The Homeroom Teacher will:

• Plan and teach grade-appropriate lessons in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
• Align instruction with New York State learning standards and the school’s curriculum.
• Create weekly lesson plans, prepare instructional materials, and maintain accurate student records.
• Use assessments, classwork, observations, and student data to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
• Provide differentiated support for students with varying academic abilities and learning needs.
• Establish clear classroom routines, expectations, and behavior-management systems.
• Create a safe, structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress, behavior, attendance, and classroom expectations.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent-teacher conferences, school programs, and assigned duties.
• Supervise students during designated lunch, dismissal, transition, and prayer periods.
• Collaborate with administrators, support staff, and fellow teachers to address student needs.
• Maintain an organized, welcoming, and academically purposeful classroom.
• Support the Islamic mission, values, and school culture of Al-Manar Academy.

Schedule and Working Conditions

This is a full-time, in-person teaching position.

Teachers receive:

• One hour of scheduled planning time during the school day.
• A 30-minute supervised student lunch period.
• A 30-minute Dhuhr prayer period.
• Compensation for all scheduled working periods, including planning time, supervised lunch, and prayer supervision.
• Paid leave during the final ten days of Ramadan for eligible full-time teachers, in accordance with the school calendar and employment policies.

Because teachers are compensated hourly, employees are expected to maintain accurate time records and arrive consistently on time for all assigned duties.

Required Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to teach multiple elementary core subjects.
• Willingness to learn classroom-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
• Willingness to receive feedback, participate in coaching, and continue developing professionally.
• Commitment to maintaining student safety, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
• Ability to support and uphold the mission and values of an Islamic school.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Elementary Education.
• New York State teaching certification or progress toward certification.
• Previous experience as an elementary homeroom teacher.
• Experience teaching in a private, faith-based, or Islamic school.
• Familiarity with New York State learning standards.
• Experience with differentiated instruction, intervention, student data, and educational technology.
• Knowledge of positive behavior-support and classroom-management practices.

Physical and Professional Expectations

Candidates must be able to perform the regular responsibilities of an elementary teacher, including standing for portions of the school day, moving throughout the classroom, supervising students, preparing materials, and responding appropriately to student needs.

Employment is subject to completion of the school’s hiring process, reference checks, background-clearance requirements, and verification of qualifications.

Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour
