Assistant Principal of Elementary and Middle School

Al-Hamra Academy is seeking a highly capable, execution-oriented Assistant Principal (“AP”) to strengthen instructional leadership, operational rigor, and day-to-day oversight across the Elementary and Middle School program. The Assistant Principal will be a hands-on instructional and operational leader with direct authority, clear ownership of critical processes, and accountability for execution. The AP will partner closely with the Principal while independently driving defined areas of responsibility. The ideal candidate is decisive, highly organized, documentation-oriented, and experienced in school operations, teacher supervision, student support systems, and parent engagement.

Core Responsibilities

1. Instructional Leadership & Student Support Coordinate with and provide oversight over Curriculum Coordinators to:

  • Provide direct instructional leadership and coaching to teachers to ensure academic rigor, alignment, and consistency.
  • Use student data (MAP, Dibels, formative assessments, behavior data) to identify academic and social-emotional needs and drive timely interventions.
  • Lead or co-lead student support processes, including:

o At-risk student identification

o Behavioral intervention plans

o Coordination with counselors, specialists, and teachers

  • Play an active leadership role in IEP and special education processes, ensuring timelines, documentation, and parent communication are executed correctly and promptly.
  • Support effective implementation of SEL programs and ensure consistency across classrooms and specials.

2. Support Staff Supervision, Accountability & Professional Growth (as needed) Staff supervision, accountability and professional growth is primarily the responsibility of the Principal. However, at times the Assistant Principal may be required to support the following:

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of teachers and instructional staff.
  • Support teacher supervision and evaluation for assigned staff, including:

o Formal and informal observations

o Written feedback

o Performance improvement plans (PIPs)

o Follow-through to resolution

  • Help coordinate with Curriculum Coordinators to support planning and facilitation of professional development aligned to school priorities.
  • Support addressing staff performance concerns, misalignment, or non-compliance with expectations.

3. Daily Operations & Execution Oversight

  • Own and oversee execution of key operational processes, including but not limited to:

o MAP testing and academic assessments (in coordination with Curriculum

Coordinators)

o Substitute coverage and staffing logistics

o Student schedules and daily operations

o Health, safety, and emergency protocols

  • Ensure operational readiness for major events, testing windows, reporting periods, and school milestones.
  • Maintain clear documentation, trackers, and timelines for all assigned responsibilities.
  • Ensure required compliance items (e.g., waivers, health communications, parent notifications) are executed timely and accurately.

4. Parent Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate proactively, clearly, and professionally with parents regarding academic, behavioral, and operational matters.
  • Support and, when appropriate, lead parent meetings involving student concerns or escalations.
  • Ensure communication timelines and follow-ups are met, documented, and aligned with school standards.
  • Serve as a visible, accessible leader to students, staff, and families.

5. Culture, Climate & Leadership Presence

  • Promote a positive, disciplined, and mission-aligned school culture rooted in Islamic values.
  • Demonstrate calm authority, sound judgment, and professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Support consistent implementation of school policies, discipline procedures, and behavioral expectations.
  • Model strong leadership presence, decisiveness, and accountability.

6. Partnership with the Principal & Board Alignment

  • Partner closely with the Principal while maintaining clear ownership of assigned domains.
  • Escalate risks, concerns, and systemic issues promptly and proactively.
  • Provide clear updates, data, and documentation to support leadership and Board oversight.
  • Help ensure “no surprises” through early identification and communication of issues.

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, Curriculum, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in elementary and/or middle school education.
  • Demonstrated experience in:

o Teacher supervision and evaluation

o Student behavior and support systems

o Academic assessment and data-driven decision-making

o Parent communication and conflict resolution

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and follow-through skills.

Preferred

  • Prior experience as an Assistant Principal, Dean, or Instructional Leader.
  • Experience working in independent, faith-based, or mission-driven schools.
  • Training or experience in social-emotional learning and special education processes.
