The Community Resource Specialist – Cosmetology is a part-time role designed to provide mentoring, guidance, and hands-on support to students in the Buchtel CLC Cosmetology Pathway. This position creates expanded opportunities for students to practice cosmetology techniques, develop professional habits, and build readiness for careers in the beauty industry. The role is a program support role that works in partnership with the licensed Cosmetology teacher and school staff.
- Valid and active Ohio Cosmetology License with Instructor Endorsement from the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board; this is a support role and does not require a CTE teaching license.
- Valid and active Ohio Educational Aide Permit required prior to start date
- Professional salon experience and strong passion for supporting youth.
- Satisfactory BCI and FBI background check.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to model professionalism.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and skill reinforcement to cosmetology pathway students.
- Help students practice and refine techniques in a supervised, safe salon-style environment.
- Support students in accruing hours toward state licensure under the direction of the licensed Cosmetology teacher.
- Model professionalism, customer service, and workplace readiness skills.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher and school staff to schedule additional practice opportunities outside the regular school day.
- Track and report student participation and hours accurately.
- Help coordinate work-based learning and internship opportunities with local salons and community partners.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment that follows sanitation and safety protocols.
- Typically four days per week when school is in session (approximately 20 hours per week).
- Standard hours are 1:00–6:00 p.m., with flexibility for summer learning opportunities and occasional planning meetings.
- Works under the direction of the licensed Career Technical Education Cosmetology teacher and building administration.
