The Surgery Scheduler coordinates process to schedule surgical and other procedures in operating room, physician office, sedation, and other hospital units.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates process to schedule surgical and other procedures in operating room, physician office, sedation, and other hospital units.
- Manages physician schedules to support efficient practice operations.
- Communicates effectively via personal contact, phone and in writing with patients/ families, physicians, hospital staff, community professionals, insurance companies, etc.
- Efficiently and accurately uses computer for generation of reports, letters, forms and other communications/documents.
- Provides administrative support for clinic and educational activities of physicians, nurses or other support staff as directed.
- Other duties as required.
Technical Expertise
- Experience in surgery scheduling is preferred.
- Experience with and knowledge of CPT coding, ICD-9 terminology is preferred.
- Must be detailed oriented with the ability to make decisions and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with various levels within an organization is required.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be compassionate towards families experiencing stressful conditions.
- Experience in healthcare is preferred.
- Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
- Experience working in an electronic medical record system (i.e. EPIC) is preferred.
- Education: High School diploma is required.
- Certification: None.
- Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a clinical/medical environment is preferred.
- Years of experience supervising: None.
