About the Role The Accounting Department at AKRF is seeking a Junior Project Accountant to work in New York City. Job Responsibilities:Perform all aspects of project accounting, including project setup and revision, review and adjustment of time and expense charges, revenue recognition, billing, WIP analysis and reconciliation, project closeout, sub-consultant invoice processing, and collections support.Perform project setup, including establishing project codes, budgets, and cost centers.Support in monitoring and analyzing project financial performance, tracking actual costs against budgets.Assist in the review of project expenses, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial policies.Prepare project billing and invoicing, including verifying billable items, rates, and contract terms.Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate revenue recognition and project profitability.Conduct regular project cost and revenue reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.Assist in developing project budgets and forecasts, collaborating with project teams.Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.Ensure compliance with project-related contractual obligations, financial regulations, and accounting standards.Assist in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.Maintain accurate and organized project accounting records for audit purposes.Collaborate effectively with project managers, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders.Maintain the main contact information, updated COIs, and current company information if needed.Essential Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in project accounting, public accounting, or related roles.Solid understanding of project accounting principles, revenue recognition, and cost control.Proficiency in using accounting software and financial management systems. Unanet and Deltek, a plus.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.Attention to detail and accuracy in financial calculations and reporting.Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.Knowledge of relevant financial regulations, compliance, and auditing standards is preferred.Experience in the engineering, construction, or professional services industry is a plus.CompensationCompensation will range from $65K to $80K, and commensurate with experience.
