Position Overview:

We are seeking a Drilling Optimization Engineer to join our cross-functional product and engineering teams. This is a strategic role that combines subsurface drilling expertise with product development, data analytics, and operational optimization. You will help define, build, and refine features in ProACT (and potentially other AKM products) that drive measurable value for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in oil & gas operations and experience with field-based software systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Product & Feature Development

• Collaborate with product managers to define feature requirements that solve real drilling operational pain points.
• Translate drilling engineering challenges into product features, optimization models, and analytics.
• Provide domain expertise during product design, prototyping, and testing.

Optimization & Analytics

• Develop and validate optimization models (e.g., cost, rate of penetration, risk) for drilling operations.
• Analyze drilling data (historical and real-time) to identify inefficiencies, trends, and optimization opportunities.
• Use statistical methods, machine learning, or simulation (depending on product maturity) to propose and test optimization strategies.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Partner with software engineers and data scientists to ensure domain correctness in model implementations.
• Work with customer-facing teams (client drilling engineers, implementation consultants) to gather feedback and validate features.
• Support clients in pilot projects, feature rollouts, and post-implementation reviews to ensure ROI.

Operational Insights & Best Practices

• Drive best practices in drilling optimization by leveraging your field knowledge.
• Provide thought leadership: develop playbooks, case studies, or white papers on optimization approaches for clients.
• Stay up to date with industry trends (drilling tech, sensors, real-time data, IIoT) and bring innovative ideas to AKM’s product roadmap.

Technical Support & Training

• Assist in pre-sales and sales demonstrations, providing technical credibility and domain insight.
• Train internal teams and clients on new optimization features and how to interpret analytical outputs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in drilling operations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare & present analytics reports & presentations for clients

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Domain Experience: 5 years (or more) in drilling engineering, well planning, or drilling operations.
• Proven experience in optimization: models, data analysis, or process improvement in drilling.
• Strong analytical skills: comfort with data, modeling, simulation, or machine-learning is a plus.
• Excellent communication & presentation skills: ability to translate technical drilling concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience working with cross-functional product or software teams is preferred.
• Familiarity with drilling data systems, real-time data, and drilling KPIs is a strong plus.
• Self-starter mentality: ability to drive projects, influence product direction, and engage with customers.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and training tools (Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint etc.).
• Ability to travel when needed
