  • Prepare patients and equipment for procedures, verify identity using two identifiers, explain the procedure, and obtain informed consent as applicable
  • Assist physicians and licensed providers during procedures by setting up sterile fields, managing contrast or therapeutic agents as authorized, and documenting procedural data
  • Monitor patients during procedures for hemodynamic, respiratory, or neurologic changes and escalate clinical concerns to the supervising provider and nursing team
  • Record measurements, tracings, and procedural observations accurately in CPRS, RIS, and specialty information systems (e.g., cath lab hemodynamic, echo, EEG, or perfusion records)
  • Perform daily and periodic quality control on all assigned instrumentation; complete preventive maintenance checks and report defects through Biomedical Engineering
  • Maintain supplies, sterile processing workflows, and par levels for the assigned suite or lab
  • Comply with infection prevention, radiation safety (where applicable), HIPAA, the VA Privacy Act, VA record retention, and Talent Management System (TMS) training requirements
  • Participate in accreditation readiness (Joint Commission, ACR/IAC as applicable), peer review, and continuous quality improvement
  • Deliver patient-centered, Veteran-focused care with cultural humility and sensitivity to service-connected conditions

Required Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the specialization of the position, OR completion of coursework including at least 24 semester hours with at least 12 in a field directly related to the specialization (consistent with the VA ICSP GS-0649 qualification standard and 42 CFR Part 75)
  • Active specialty certification appropriate to the assignment (for example RCIS/RCES for cath lab; ARDMS/RDCS/RVT for echo/vascular ultrasound; R. EEG T./R. EP T. for electroneurodiagnostics; CCP for perfusion)
  • Active California licensure or permit as required by the specialty (e.g., CA CRT for fluoroscopic cath lab support, if applicable)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of hospital clinical experience in the assigned specialty
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); ACLS required for cardiac catheterization, perfusion, and other invasive-procedure assignments
  • Demonstrated proficiency with CPRS and specialty information systems relevant to the assignment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing through VetPro and a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation (minimum Tier 1 / NACI) and meet all VA immunization, TB screening, and occupational health requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a patient-centered orientation
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience at a VA Medical Center, DoD Military Treatment Facility, or Indian Health Service facility
  • Dual specialty credentialing (e.g., RCIS RCES; RDCS RVT)
