What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Manager position at AKER BIOMARINE MANUFACTURING LLC?
Overall responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for all day to day operations of the Maintenance Team in a 24/7 production environment. The Manager will also be responsible for the Maintenance Budget and leading projects associated directly with maintenance productivity increase, cost savings, and capacity increase.
Detailed responsibilities:
- Manage the maintenance team, and tactical maintenance schedule
- Maintain a positive team working environment
- Understanding of, and strong mechanical skill base to include: High Speed Automation, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and Electronic Equipment;
- Investigates and diagnoses to resolve maintenance production problems in a timely manner utilizing maintenance lead, and techs. Advises Production Manager, and other appropriate team leads/members of departments. Including but not limited to engineering, lab, quality, and or warehouse department of equipment failure or items requiring excessive maintenance.
- Understanding of a 24/7 production manufacturing business and its needs; including prioritizing work to your team to ensure timely maintenance, repair and installation of equipment, tools and utility systems to minimize manufacturing/production downtime.
- Repair or maintain the operating condition of production or processing machinery or equipment.
- Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of ammonia compressors, condensers, receivers, plate-n-frames, quick waters, boilers and other plant utilities
- Ensures that good housekeeping and safe work practices are followed. Insures that all aspects of the quality, food safety, HAACP and Government programs are adhered to with emphasis on the continued compliance to these programs
- Responsible for the completion of preventative and predictive maintenance plans of equipment, including but not limited to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to ensure that critical equipment and machinery are properly maintained and in correct safety operating order; Directs Maintenance team in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
Asset Management:
- Establish and maintain machine history files along with schematics, manuals and any relevant information on all equipment;
- Responsible for maintenance labor budget oversight to insure budget is being spent wisely and overall spending is in control.
- Responsible for tactical maintenance schedule, estimates hour requirements for completion of current, ongoing, and upcoming projects assigned to maintenance group. Keeps track of maintenance OT, reports to Plant Manager with specific details if deviations (above yearly forecasted of 10%) occur and or OT is expected. Records progress of jobs/projects scheduled and ensures that daily time distribution of employees are properly assigned. Adheres, as closely as possible, to the daily work schedule without wasting manpower or materials
- Responsible for working in a team environment with HSE Manager regarding the plant-wide safety program to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other State/Federal regulatory agencies; Participate in safety/HSE program so as to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
- Supports CFO in setting maintenance budget, and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with budget process;
- Maintain inventory system of all critical parts and supplies to ensure minimum and maximum quantities are on-hand.
- Establish routine, open two-way communication with Core Management HSE Manager, Production Manager, team leads, Engineering and Project Manager (Lab, and Quality as needed) to obtain and give feedback on equipment, and machinery performance.
- Offer recommendations, suggestions, including making changes (as directed) to improve plant maintenance operations in respect to efficiency, safety and/or quality;
- Communicates/interacts with CFO, project manager, in-house purchasing regarding equipment, to recommend improvement in materials or reduced costs;
- Monitors and evaluates all maintenance equipment inspections, for accuracy and implements corrective action; Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational and safety performance standards.
- Submits weekly reports as required (Emergency repairs, Expenditures, Preventative Maintenance, Equipment/Machine Down-time, Scheduled Maintenance, Machine Improvement) that affect production
- Responsible for filling out and maintaining maintenance related lock-out/tag-out document logs, MSDS records, job/project permit, JSEAs, etc.
- To have a 24/7 Presence, regularly on-the floor during off-hours and weekends; Proactively calling or emailing Maintenance lead/team and or other managers regarding critical issues, re-actively calling or emailing when your team initiates/address issue;
- Is available for emergencies on an On Call basis;
- Participate in daily operation morning meetings to report plans, issues and results pertaining to the maintenance department;
- Be proactive and on top of keeping the maintenance shop cleaned and organized
- Control that GMPs are well followed in the department.
- Train new hire and or current employees on systems and or equipment implemented
- Responsible for all maintenance activities, zero negative impacts in the environment
Competences and skills: must have the following skills:
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment requiring knowledge of NH3 refrigeration, plumbing, boilers, chillers, PLSs, industrial electrical/mechanical systems and maintenance, including automated manufacturing process controls and equipment
- An innovative self-starter with demonstrated team-building skills along with the capabilities to manage/lead others
- Working knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation processes/procedures and HACCP
- Demonstrated knowledge of efficient and safe manufacturing operations to include product and associate safety, OSHA standards, product quality (success rates), cost control (minimizing downtime and waste, optimizing yield)
- Experience and trained in ALL safety activities, HAZ-COM, HAZMAT, confined space, and lockout/Tagout, etc.
- Knowledge of Process Safety Management, P.N.I.D.s, and PM's.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safely rules, process and procedures, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
