What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parts Runner - Fleet Maintenance position at Akecheta Group?
As a Parts Runner with Southern Transport, you’ll help keep our fleet moving by making sure our mechanics have the right parts and supplies when they need them. You’ll pick up parts from local and regional vendors, verify orders, communicate priorities with the shop, and help keep the parts room organized and stocked.
This is a hands-on support role where urgency, accuracy, and reliability directly impact fleet uptime.
What You’ll Do
- Pick up and deliver truck parts, supplies, and materials from vendors, dealers, and warehouses
- Work with the Shop Foreman and Maintenance Manager to prioritize runs based on repair urgency and vehicle downtime
- Verify parts against purchase orders, work orders, invoices, and packing slips
- Catch incorrect, missing, or damaged parts before they create additional shop delays
- Keep shop personnel updated on expected arrival times and delays
- Receive and inspect incoming parts and supplies
- Maintain accurate receipts, mileage, expenditure, and parts-run records
- Help stock and organize the parts room and assist with inventory counts
- Assist technicians with light material handling and general shop support when needed
- Keep the company vehicle clean, organized, and ready for use
- Operate company vehicles safely and follow all Southern vehicle-use policies and applicable traffic laws
What You Need to Succeed
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Southern’s insurability requirements
- Clean motor vehicle record
- Ability to read and verify purchase orders, parts orders, invoices, and packing slips
- Basic computer/mobile-device skills for communication and recordkeeping
- Basic math skills for checking quantities and expenditures
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize quickly when multiple parts runs are needed
- Ability to communicate effectively with mechanics, shop leadership, and vendors
Preferred:
- Previous parts runner, delivery, parts counter, warehouse, or shop experience
- Familiarity with commercial truck, diesel, fleet, or heavy-equipment parts
- Experience working in a fleet maintenance or repair environment
- Familiarity with parts identification or electronic parts catalogs
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Automotive, diesel, or parts-related training
