Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications and develop treatment protocols in accordance with state laws and collaborative practice agreements.
- Perform advanced procedures such as suturing, IV insertion, catheterization, spinal taps, and dermal filler injections to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Manage acute pain and critical care cases within hospital or emergency room settings, including airway management and ventilator support.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters, medical records, and billing codes such as CPT, ICD-10/ICD-9.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, specialists (e.g., gastroenterology, infectious disease), and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans.
- Engage in telehealth services to extend access to care remotely while maintaining high standards of clinical quality and HIPAA compliance.
Qualifications
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with current certification to prescribe medications under state regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in diverse clinical environments such as hospital medicine, emergency medicine, critical care (ICU/Level I & II trauma centers), or outpatient clinics.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner or Athenahealth; experience with telehealth platforms is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, pharmacology (including drug enforcement regulations), medical terminology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Skilled in performing procedures such as suturing, phlebotomy, venipuncture, sterile processing techniques, and basic life support (BLS).
- Experience working with special populations including pediatrics (including neonatal ventilators), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), hospice & palliative medicine or individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Familiarity with CPT coding for billing purposes; understanding of Workers’ Compensation law is advantageous.
- Excellent client communication skills combined with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced environments such as hospitals or urgent care centers.
