Position Summary
As part of the AIS team and broader Tech24 network, the HVACR PM Apprentice supports senior technicians in performing preventative maintenance (PM) and basic service on commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment. This role is designed for individuals who are mechanically inclined and eager to grow within the skilled trades. The PM Apprentice will focus primarily on preventative maintenance, system inspections, basic repairs, and learning diagnostic procedures under the supervision of experienced technicians,
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior technicians with preventative maintenance on walk-in coolers/freezers, reach-ins, ice machines, rooftop units, split systems, and exhaust/make-up air systems
- Perform routine PM tasks such as cleaning coils, changing filters, inspecting belts, checking electrical connections, testing system performance, and verifying proper refrigeration levels
- Identify and report early signs of system wear or failure to senior technicians
- Support basic troubleshooting and minor repairs under supervision
- learn proper refrigeration handling and EPA compliance procedures
- Accurately document service calls, parts used, labor hours, and customer interactions in company system
- Maintain organized truck inventory and ensure proper care of tools and equipment
- Follow all safety guidelines and company policies
- Deliver professional and courteous customer service while onsite
- Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs
- Gradually assume greater responsibility as skills and certifications are achieved
Qualifications
- 0-2 years of HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, or related technical experience preferred
- Trade school or technical school training strongly preferred
- EPA Universal Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within the first year)
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record required
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
- Strong willingness to learn and receive hands-on coaching
- Ability to read and interpret basic wiring diagrams and technical manuals
- Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in varying indoor / outdoor conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, work from heights, and crawl in tight quarters
- Must be willing to participate in on-call rotation as skills progress
Compensation Transparency
The advertised pay range for this position is $18-$25 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as mechanical aptitude, prior technical experience, certifications, and overall qualifications. As an apprentice-level position, compensation reflects a training-focused role with significant opportunity for wage growth as skills and certifications are earned.
