This position is part of our AboveAir Technologies team in Frederick, MD. AboveAir Technologies is a market leader in providing highly configured HVAC solutions that span the data center market (on-prem, colocation, and hyperscale).
Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist
Job Summary:
The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace safety programs. This individual identifies hazardous conditions and practices, conducts thorough onsite inspections, and ensures the facility adheres to local, state, and federal regulations (such as OSHA). They will be responsible for manufacturer and warehouse oversite locations and support first shift and second shift operations. The goal is to foster a culture of safety where every employee returns home in the same condition they arrived.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular walkthroughs of facilities and job sites to identify potential fire, safety, or health hazards.
- Compliance Management: Ensure all operations comply with 29 CFR 1910(General Industry) and /or 1926 (Construction) standards.
- Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation of accidents, near-misses, and injuries. Determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training modules for employees on topics such as PPE, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Fall Protections, Hazard Communication, Respiratory protection and other relevant environmental and safety training.
- Environmental Oversight: Manage waste disposal protocols; water discharge from facility, runoff, and well water requirements; and air emissions related to paint booth.
- Industrial Hygiene: Monitor factors related to employee exposure to noise levels; air emission exposure from brazing, welding, and paint operations; lasers, and chemical exposure.
- Reporting: Maintain required safety logs (e.g., OSHA 300 logs and prepare internal reports for management regarding safety metrics and KPIs.
Qualifications & Skills: Requirement
Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field
Certifications: GSP (Graduate Safety Professional, ASP (Associate Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations.
Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to influence behavior, and attention to detail.
Experience: 2 – 5 years of experience in an industrial or construction safety role.
