JOB SUMMARY

The Sales Associate in the Major Appliance Retail sector is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while assisting customers in selecting and purchasing appliances. This role involves actively engaging with customers, explaining product features, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience. The Sales Associate will also support the store’s sales goals by meeting individual sales targets and contributing to team performance.

Key responsibilities

1. Customer Service and Sales:

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional, and respectful manner, ensuring that each interaction reflects the company’s values and commitment to high-quality service.
  • Maintain professionalism in conduct and behavior at all times, offering attentive and personalized service to customers while respecting their preferences and needs.
  • Exhibit a polished professional appearance, adhering to company dress codes and grooming standards to foster trust and confidence with customers.
  • Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products based on customer preferences and requirements.
  • Demonstrate product features and benefits, helping customers make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently, ensuring customers feel valued and respected throughout the entire purchasing process.
  • Follow up on customer inquiries and post-purchase satisfaction to ensure customer loyalty and demonstrate a commitment to service excellence

2. Product Knowledge:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all products, including their features, benefits, specifications, and pricing.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in major appliances and industry developments.
  • Assist customers with technical questions and provide information on warranties, financing options, and installation services.

3. Sales Targets and Goals:

  • Meet or exceed personal sales targets and contribute to the store’s overall sales goals.
  • Actively promote sales campaigns, special offers, and new product releases to increase sales.
  • Track individual sales performance and adjust approaches to meeting target objectives.

4. Store Presentation and Merchandising:

  • Ensure the sales floor is organized, clean, and well-stocked with the latest products.
  • Assist in the visual merchandising of appliances, ensuring products are presented attractively and strategically.

5. Customer Support and Problem Solving:

· Accurately and carefully manage customer expectations, and avoid over-promising outcomes to customers that are not reasonable

  • Handle customer concerns and complaints in a calm, professional manner, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Assist customers with post-sale support, including product returns, exchanges, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide guidance on appliance delivery, installation, and maintenance options.

6. Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other sales associates, managers, and support staff to achieve store goals.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques.
  • Share best practices with team members and support a positive work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent ; A college degree is a plus

Experience

· Previous retail sales experience, preferably in the major appliance, home goods, mattress or electronics sector.

· Knowledge of major appliance products (or willingness to learn).

· Basic computer skills, including familiarity with point-of-sale systems and inventory management software.

· Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage customers and provide a high level of service; accurately and carefully manage customer expectations, and avoid over-promising outcomes to customers that are not reasonable

· Sales Skills: Proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets, with strong persuasive and negotiation abilities.

· Product Knowledge: A solid understanding of major appliances and their features, or the ability to learn quickly.

· Communication: Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written to interact with customers and co-workers

· Problem Solving: Ability to resolve customer issues and complaints in a calm and efficient manner.

· Teamwork: Collaborative attitude with the ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment.

· Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain a tidy sales floor.

Work environment & Physical requirements

· Occasional lifting of products, including heavy appliances, ranging from 25 to 50 pounds.

· Retail store environment, which can be fast paced, especially during peak shopping times (e.g., holidays, sales events).

· Work is typically done on the sales floor, interacting with customers and assisting with product displays.

· May require some travel between store locations, depending on business needs.

· Extended hours during key holiday time periods and most weekends may be required to meet customer demand and sales goals.

COMPENSATION & COMMISSION STRUCTURE

Initial Training Period (Non-Exempt):

· Pay rate ranging from $ 20.00 - $ 25.00 per hour, depending on experience, for the first 60 days of employment

· Eligible for overtime per California wage and hour laws.

Post-Training Commission Period (Exempt):

After successful completion of the initial 60-day training period, and upon entering a signed Commission Agreement, the position transitions to a fully commission-based structure, making the employee eligible for exemption from overtime under California's inside sales exemption, provided the following criteria are met each pay period:

· Employee earns more than 1.5 times the applicable minimum wage for every hour worked.

· More than 50% of total earnings come from commission.

SPIFFs and Bonuses:

Employees will become eligible for manufacture SPIFFs after 90 days of employment or as otherwise detailed in the Commission Agreement.
