The role of the Engineering Manager is to lead a multi-disciplined Engineering department in their mission to provide engineered systems for industries that utilize Hydraulics, Automation, and Controls applications. You must be a well-rounded Engineering Manager with significant hands-on experience. Other responsibilities include measuring departmental and individual performance, then holding individuals accountable, and recommending continuous process improvement and documentation control in an ISO environment. This position requires extensive experience with Hydraulic, Automation, and Controls applications. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and manage internal and external resources. Reports to the Director of Manufacturing and Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a staff of approximately 40 Engineers, Mechanical Designers, project managers, and administrative personnel that are both on site and remote
- Work with the engineering team leads to unify the estimating, execution, and project management processes between the different disciplines
- Ensure technical excellence by promoting best practices and training in design, engineering, and project execution
- Evaluate and help develop new technologies, tools, and processes to quote and execute projects more efficiently
- Develop a rigorous project management process for large, spec-driven projects and complex engineered systems
- Manage engineering resource utilization
- Develop external resources to prepare for Engineering demand spikes and provide Engineering skills outside of our core competency
- Review RFQ’s from Sales for completeness, accuracy, risks, and core competency
- Review quotes and purchase orders for engineered projects to ensure terms and project scope align with the quotation
- Conduct weekly project review and resource assignment meetings with the Engineering Team
- Conduct concept/design reviews for significant projects with key members of the Engineering Team
- Review cost estimates of significant projects with upper management
- Work closely with the sales managers to make sure the sales team and engineering team are aligned
- Conduct follow-up meetings after the completion of significant projects with Business Unit Managers, Sales, Project Team, and Senior Management when appropriate
- Travel as needed to other Company locations, customer jobsites, training programs, and industry events
- Coach, mentor, develop, and train the engineers on your team
