The Opportunity
APG is seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented, and forward‑thinking Aircraft Performance Engineer with a strong interest in software development, automation, and applied AI technologies. This is a full‑time technical role focused on the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of aircraft performance analysis software and data systems.
The successful candidate will support and enhance APG’s runway analysis, flight planning, and weight and balance applications, ensuring digital outputs faithfully reflect approved aircraft manufacturer data (AFM, POH, and certified software modules). This role will increasingly leverage software engineering best practices, data automation, and AI‑assisted techniques to improve scalability, data quality, validation efficiency, and overall product reliability.

Duties and Responsibilities
Aircraft Performance & Engineering Analysis
- Interpret, digitize, and reformat aircraft performance data for integration into proprietary software systems.
- Validate that computed performance outputs accurately match original manufacturer‑approved engineering data.
- Determine:
- Maximum takeoff and landing weights based on runway, meteorological, obstacle, terrain, and aircraft‑specific parameters.
- Required takeoff and landing field lengths and associated speeds.
- Time, fuel burn, and operational constraints for flights between airports under varying conditions.
- Aircraft center of gravity, fuel burn profiles, and ballast requirements based on weight, moment, and loading configurations.
Software Development & Automation
- Contribute to the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of engineering software applications used for aircraft performance analysis.
- Develop and maintain automated tools, scripts, and workflows to improve data ingestion, validation, testing, and release processes.
- Collaborate with software engineers and data teams to improve system architecture, performance, maintainability, and traceability of engineering data.
- Apply software development best practices, including version control, structured testing, documentation, and peer review.
AI, Data Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Utilize AI‑assisted techniques (e.g., intelligent data checks, anomaly detection, pattern recognition, automated comparisons, or model‑assisted validation) to:
- Increase automation of engineering workflows
- Improve data accuracy, consistency, and quality assurance
- Reduce manual processing and validation effort
- Participate in the evaluation and responsible adoption of emerging AI tools to enhance engineering productivity while maintaining regulatory and certification integrity.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and data quality through automation and innovation.
Testing, Validation & Support
- Test completed aircraft data packages and software releases against applicable manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
- Support quality assurance by executing structured test plans and documenting results.
- Provide technical support to IT, product, and sales teams.
- Provide email and phone support for engineering‑related customer inquiries.
Required Experience and Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 0–2 years of experience in aircraft performance, engineering analysis, software development, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in software development, scripting, or automation (e.g., Python, MATLAB, SQL, or similar tools).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately across multiple units of measure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and execute tasks effectively.
- Strong analytical skills and logical decision‑making under time or operational constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Aircraft Flight Manuals (AFM) or Pilot Operating Handbooks (POH).
- Experience with Runway Analysis, Weight and Balance, or Flight Planning calculations.
- Exposure to software testing, data validation, or QA processes.
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted tools, data analytics, or automation frameworks.
- FAA Private Pilot License or FAA Dispatcher License.
