Heat Treat Specialist

SUMMARY:

The Heat Treat Specialist is a hands-on role responsible for safely and accurately performing heat treating processes for aircraft parts, tools, and fabricated components in support of AirCorps Aviation’s restoration, fabrication, machining, and build-to-print operations. This position helps ensure parts meet required material properties, dimensional stability, and quality standards while supporting production schedules, documentation requirements, shop organization, preventative maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Heat Treat Operations

• Set up, operate, and monitor heat treating equipment, including furnaces, ovens, quench systems, and supporting fixtures used for aircraft parts and fabricated components.
• Perform heat treat processes such as solution heat treating, aging, annealing, tempering, and stress relieving in accordance with approved work instructions, process requirements, and material specifications.
• Load, rack, and position parts to support proper heat distribution, distortion control, and repeatable processing results.
• Verify cycle parameters including time, temperature, soak periods, transfer timing, and quench requirements to ensure consistent conformance.

Production & Quality

• Complete all assigned tasks according to team production schedules supporting restoration, fabrication, machining, and aerospace parts manufacturing work.
• Inspect processed parts for visual condition, hardness, distortion, and other acceptance criteria as required by internal procedures and customer specifications.
• Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, certifications, and batch documentation for traceability and compliance.
• Organize tools, fixtures, baskets, racks, and equipment for accessibility and efficient workflow.
• Identify and suggest improvements to shop systems, process flow, and efficiency to support company growth and product quality.

Safety, Professionalism & Teamwork

• Maintain safe work habits, adhere to proper use of personal protective equipment, and identify or mitigate hazards associated with high-temperature equipment and material handling.
• Care for and perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, reporting issues that could affect safety, quality, or uptime.
• Collaborate as part of a high-performance team with fabrication, machining, engineering, and restoration personnel to meet production and quality expectations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to meet shop and company needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2–5 years of experience in heat treating, aerospace manufacturing, metal processing, or a related precision manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of heat treating principles, including temperature control, soak time, quenching methods, and material response for aluminum and other aerospace alloys.
• Ability to read and follow drawings, travelers, work instructions, and material or process specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and process documentation.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate shop equipment and material handling tools.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
• Manual dexterity, physical strength, and visual acuity required to handle parts, operate equipment, and inspect for defects.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, reach, and lift or pull objects up to 50 pounds.
• Passion for aviation, historic aircraft, precision manufacturing, or high-quality craftsmanship is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION:

$24.00 – $32.00 per hour
