Critical Care Flight Nurse

AirCare Alaska
Fairbanks, AK Full Time
POSTED ON 3/2/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/29/2026

AirCare Alaska is seeking highly skilled critical care nurses to join our fixed-wing critical care transport teams. Operating from four strategic bases—two above the Arctic Circle in extreme cold environments, one in Southeast Alaska near the ocean, and one in Interior Alaska—you will provide advanced life support during high-acuity inter-facility and scene-response transports across Alaska’s vast and challenging landscapes.

AirCare Alaska is the only 100% owned and operated for-profit air ambulance company in Alaska.

Key Responsibilities:

* Deliver critical care in-flight, including mechanical ventilation using Hamilton T1, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) using Hamilton H900, multichannel infusion pumps, RSI with Karl Storz C-MAC PM video laryngoscopy, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, and obstetric monitoring utilizing Philips Avalon FM 30 fetal monitors.

* Perform rapid assessments and interventions in austere environments, including extreme cold (-50°F wind chills), coastal weather, and Interior Alaska’s subzero winters with variable terrain.

* Collaborate with flight paramedics, dual-pilot crews, and ground EMS for seamless patient handoffs.

* Manage pediatric and obstetric emergencies, including neonatal resuscitation and high-risk OB transports.

* Maintain aircraft safety, medical equipment readiness, and strict adherence to company SOPs and FAA regulations.

* Participate in our “4 to say go, 1 to say no” safety culture—empowering every crew member to halt operations if safety is compromised.

Required Qualifications:

* Current Alaska RN license (or ability to obtain AK licensure via compact or endorsement).

* Minimum 3 years of adult ICU and/or PICU experience.

* BSN preferred; ADN accepted with equivalent critical care experience.

* BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications.

* Valid passport.

* Must obtain TPATC (Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course) within 6 months of hire.

Schedule:

* 10 days on / 20 days off rotation in remote bases with limited amenities.

Preferred Certifications (Weighted in Hiring)

* CFRN (Certified Flight Registered Nurse) – Strongly preferred.

* C-NPT (Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport) – Highest preference.

Ideal Experience:

* Pediatric and high-risk obstetric critical care transport.

* Prior fixed-wing flight experience.

* Cold-weather operations and survival training.

Physical & Environmental Demands

* Lift/carry 100 lbs with a partner in confined spaces.

* Work in extreme cold (Arctic and Interior bases) or wet/coastal conditions (SE base).

* Tolerance for high-altitude physiology, turbulent flight conditions, and Interior Alaska’s extreme seasonal temperature swings (-60°F to 90°F).

Compensation:

* Pay depends on experience and certifications.

* Overtime available.

Why AirCare Alaska?

* Fly state-of-the-art Pilatus PC-12 NGX and Cessna Grand Caravan 208 aircraft in a dual-pilot configuration.

* Physician-led medical direction with rigorous internal standards and continuous training.

* Serve Alaska’s most vulnerable—from remote villages to Level I trauma centers.
