Skilled Laborer

This position is classified as non-exempt. The employee will report to the site supervisor.

Summary/Objective

Th skilled laborer position is an entry level position that performs tasks involving physical labor at installation sites. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools including machinery. The position may assist other craft workers, and lead employees.

Essential Functions

  • Assist a variety of tasks involving new installations of Compressed Air Systems.
  • Assist in performing modifications to existing compressed air systems and associated equipment.
  • Operate equipment used during installations – Lull, Excavator, Scissor Lift, Tamper, etc.
  • Fuse weld HDPE pipe and place pipe in excavated trench
  • Pipe fitting – thread pipe, extruded aluminum pipe, weld and flange pipe.
  • Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors
  • Follow all safety regulations
  • Abide by all personal protective equipment rules and guidelines as set by APS, Inc. and their customers.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook for communication and reporting purposes.
  • Demonstrate Safety aptitude and willingness to learn/be coachable.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required.

1 – 2 years construction experience

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and random drug screenings when selected.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check.

Job Type

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 50 hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site. This may include non-standard work weeks.

Travel

The employee may travel extensively when the project site is not close to the main office or when responsible for activities at two or more sites.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
