Job Responsibilities
Located in Branchburg, NJ
The Site Leader is responsible and accountable for developing the overall operating strategy for the North Branch site in concert with the other functional leaders. In alignment with the ALAM site strategy the North Branch site is becoming less “high volume manufacturing” and more PDL and PD as our business continues to grow and evolve. The Site Leader must be able to effectively coordinate a wide gamut of product output from North Branch ranging from first time samples, small volume chemicals, ramping processes and high volume. With the addition of the Discovery lab to North Branch, the volume of new first time samples will increase in the future. The transformation of the North Branch site (people/processes/systems) is critical to successfully executing the ALAM site strategy.
This leader must lead in a way that which demonstrates the importance of the “what” and the “how”. She must lead her team to implement change in a feedback rich environment which generates mutual respect and committed team members. Results must be achieved in a sustainable fashion. The Site Leader is expected to be able to thrive in a fast paced and very dynamic environment. As not all functions on the North Branch site report to the Site Leader, leading through influence is a necessary skill.
Responsibilities:
- Aligns the annual Site goals to the site strategy, cascades the goals and then supports the teams with the direction, resources and motivation to achieve or exceed the goals.
- Key Process Indicator generation and tracking is critical to enable short interval control with clear accountability.
- Sets clear direction for the organization by providing pinpointed expectations for HSE, quality and productivity performance.
- Reinforces desired behaviors of the team and redirects undesired behaviors through pinpointed feedback.
- Is able to lead the team to develop process and systems to achieve sustainable results. Does not rely on brute force techniques. Builds the strength of the management systems so results are sustainable..
- Is able to form effective partnerships with leaders of other organizations and functions to align on shared strategies and goals.
- Makes decisions with a view towards what is best for Air Liquide Advanced Materials, what is best for the plant, what is best for the individual. Seeks win/win outcomes.
- Makes data based decisions. Is methodical in the analysis. Lets the data lead to a decision. Does not become paralyzed by data analysis.
- Takes action to resolve gaps between performance and goals. Holds the Site Teams accountable for delivering on their goals. Rewards and recognizes performance which generates sustainable results..
- Drives a culture of “Do It Safe, Do It Right the First Time” with their actions and their words on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Chemical Engineering and 5 years of experience in manufacturing chemicals, or 10 years experience in manufacturing chemicals
- Specialty chemical, food or pharmaceutical plant operations experience
- Experience working with PDL and PD operations
- Experience working with highly hazardous chemicals; toxic, flammable, pyrophoric
- Progressive leadership experience with people responsibility
- Certified as a Q4 leader from Performance Based Leadership
- Demonstrated ability to develop people into new roles in the organization
- Working knowledge of Process Safety methodologies; Loss Prevention, LOPA and HAZOP, PSM or RMP
- Strong root cause investigation and analysis
- Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task
- Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and changing priorities
- Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in written and verbal formats with stakeholders at multiple levels in the business.
- Demonstrated ability to execute transformations of organizations and plants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification or equivalent knowledge
- Statistical Process Control, Statistical Quality Control experience
- 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience
- Able to learn technical chemical processes quickly in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience working in dynamic environments of short time to market and high customer expectations.
- Experience working in an empowered organization.
- Understanding of the principles of chemical process automation.
