What are the responsibilities and job description for the engraver position at Air Force Materiel Command?
About the Position:
This position will be assigned to the Arts & Crafts Department on Edwards Air Force Base.
The selected candidate will work a Regular Part-Time schedule (guaranteed 20-35 hours per week) with benefits, including medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, 401(k), and annual/sick leave.
Responsibilities:
- Uses computer graphics software (Corel Draw) to engrave lettering and ornamental designs on various materials, such as metal, plastic, glass, acrylic, wood, etc., for items like nameplates and trophies.
- Provides embroidery work on customer-provided projects.
- Operates power and manual tools that require continuous physical effort, bending, standing, and stooping while assisting customers.
- Demonstrates engraving techniques, including safety practices of shop equipment.
- Selects, issues, and receives hand tools used by patrons.
- Develops new and innovative designs and project ideas using creativity.
- Conducts inventory, ensures accurate pricing, and notifies supervisors of discrepancies.
- Stocks shelves and displays current specials for customers.
- Submits written requests for stock and supplies needed.
- Keeps detailed records of orders and product usage.
- Cleans equipment, work area, and facility to ensure a safe working environment.
- Operates a cash register and credit card machine.
- Handles customer transactions and provides correct change.
- May drive a government vehicle (GOV) and perform other duties as assigned.
This position may require working nights, weekends, and family days. The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). This is a drug testing designated position (TDP).
Requirements:
- Must possess experience with Photoshop.
- Corel Draw experience is strongly desired.
- Embroidery experience is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of engraving techniques, materials, and processes is required.
- Skill in using hand and power tools, such as drills and hammers, is desired.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing is necessary.
- Must be able to read and follow simple instructions.
- Able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Valid driver's license is required.
The incumbent must have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet the qualifications outlined above.
