The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Senior Machinist Technician (WL-3414-11) to join the team at the 12th Maintenance Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio – Randolph AFB, Texas! In this position, you would serve as the work leader with the responsibility for the overall training, coordination, and accomplishment of the organization mission objectives. Additionally, you would perform quality machining

operations/repairs on T-1, T-7, T-38 aircraft, aircraft components, and support equipment.

WL-11 Hourly Wage Range at JBSA Randolph: $37.37 - $43.60

QUALIFICATIONS

- US Citizenship is required.

- The employee will be required to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.

- This is a drug testing position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.

- May be required to occasionally work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, and weekends on a very rare basis. The traditional shift for this vacancy is Monday through Friday, dayshift hours.

- The work will require the employee to drive a government motor vehicle. An appropriate government driver's license and the ability to determine color vision for runway operations (red, green, and white) will be required.

- 2-4 years of CNC programmer and/or operator experience at a minimum is highly desirable. Must be able to operate CNC and other typical machining equipment.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provides guidance and passes along instructions received from higher level supervisors and gets work started. Assigns immediate tasks to be performed. Demonstrates proper work methods and procedures by coordinating with other personnel.

- Works as an expert to analyze, troubleshoot, and perform all aspects of a machinist leader. Routinely visits all repairs and checks quality work while in progress and demonstrates proper work methods if needed.

- Manufactures complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials through the use of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools, and precision handwork.

- Sets up and operates a variety of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines; shapers; planers; internal and external grinders; thread cutters; and radial drills to accomplish untried tasks, procedures, and prototypes.

- Guides and motivates employees to streamline processes and design/create repairs for all assigned aircraft. Coordinates with aircraft engineers to determine the best solution to repair aircraft discrepancies.

- Creates an atmosphere of partnership with customers properly reflecting Maintenance Directorate policies and procedures.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILIITES

- Knowledge of a variety of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machines such as lathes; vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines; shapers; planers; internal and external grinders; thread cutters; and radial drills to manufacture complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials, involving unusual trade problems and requiring a high degree of ingenuity and responsibility.

- Skill in the use of many types of precision instruments and equipment such as vernier calipers; height gauges; squares; protractors; inside, outside, and depth micrometers; surface gauges; vee blocks; parallel bars; gauge blocks; dial indicators; optical and mechanical comparators; and go and no-go thread and plug gauges to attain accurate dimensions and maintain tolerances.

- Knowledge of various metals and other materials used in aircraft such as aluminum, brass, high carbon and alloy steels, chrome, nickel, titanium, nylon, rubber, plastics, and Teflon to produce the desired cuts and finishes on each material; and knowledge of the effect and relationship of heat treating, annealing, plating, welding, and other related work processes on various machining operations in completing assignments.
