What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special education itinerant teacher position at AIM HIGH CHILDREN SERVICES?
The Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) provides individualized instruction and support to preschool or school-age students with special needs in their natural environment such as homes, community programs, and schools. The SEIT implements IEP goals, collects progress data, collaborates with families and school teams, and uses evidence-based practices to promote functional communication, social skills, academic readiness, and independence in daily routines.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 or small group early intervention/special education instruction to preschool or school-age students in homes, schools, or community settings.
- Implement IEP goals and objectives using evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Conduct ongoing informal assessments, collect data on student performance, and adjust instruction based on progress.
- Collaborate regularly with families, classroom teachers, related service providers, and school teams to ensure consistency across environments.
- Develop lesson plans aligned with IEP goals and the student’s developmental needs.
- Participate in CSE/CPSE meetings when needed and provide written progress summaries.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation including session notes, progress notes, attendance, and compliance paperwork according to DOE / agency policy.
- Utilize positive behavior supports and reinforcement strategies to increase skill development and reduce barriers to learning.
- Promote and model functional communication, social skills, and independence within daily routines.
- Support the generalization of skills across home, school, and community environments.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Special Education
- NYS certification in Students with Disabilities
- Experience with NYC DOE SEIT Program;
- Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) Experience a plus
- Effective communication skills
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with Microsoft Office suite
- High-energy and passion
- Demonstrated ability to meet quotas
Salary : $65 - $75
