We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Assist with patient intake, including gathering medical history and verifying insurance information
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort
- Perform basic ophthalmic testing, including visual acuity assessments and intraocular pressure measurements, refractions, diagnostic testing
- Maintain aseptic techniques to ensure infection control during examinations and procedures
- Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems to document patient information accurately
- Support ophthalmologists during exams
- Manage medical records with confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Maintain cleanliness of clinical areas following infection control protocols
Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmology principles
- Experience with medical office operations, including EMR/EHR systems
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality
- Ability to perform basic ophthalmic testing accurately
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques to prevent infection during clinical procedures
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient education and front desk interactions
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Prior clinic experience in general medical settings is a plus
- Understanding of medical billing and coding processes is beneficial but not required
