Veterinary Assistant – Full Time

Aiken Animal Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our friendly, client-focused team. We are a well-equipped, fast-paced small animal practice that values compassionate care, teamwork, and a positive work environment.

Compensation
$13–$16 per hour, based on experience
About Our Practice
- 4 full-time veterinarians (2 part-time)

7 exam rooms
- 2 exam rooms with lift tables
- 1 lift table in treatment area
- Back friendly
- Open floor plan
- Digital X-ray and dental X-ray
- Idexx in-house laboratory
- Cornerstone software
- Limited boarding (up to 20 dogs and cats)
- Outside runs (leash walks required for boarders)
Schedule
- 4-day work week

Clinic hours:
- Monday–Friday: 7:45 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: Office is Closed

Weekend duty for hospitalized/boarding pets every 6–8 weeks
- Saturday & Sunday required: 8:00–10:00 AM and 4:00–6:00 PM
- Must have a flexible rotation for holidays
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during exams and procedures
- Safe and effective animal restraint
- Provide compassionate care for hospitalized and boarding patients
- Utilize Fear Free techniques and appropriate medications
- Build strong relationships with clients through excellent communication
- Assist with kennel and patient care duties as needed
✅ Qualifications
- Client-focused and team-oriented
- Comfortable with animal restraint (dogs and cats)
- Open to newer experience levels
- Preferred: ~1 year experience in a veterinary hospital
- Kennel or CSR background welcomed

- Provide Essential Patient Care: You'll be a key player in the health of our patients, assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
- Be the Go-To Support for the Medical Team: You'll be the backbone of the clinic, anticipating the needs of veterinarians and technicians to ensure a smooth, efficient, and collaborative workflow.
- Create a Positive Client Experience: You'll help create a seamless visit for our clients by assisting with scheduling, payments, and communications, always with a courteous and informative approach.
- Ensure a Safe and Clean Environment: You'll take pride in maintaining the hospital, performing clinic upkeep and equipment maintenance to uphold our high standards of care.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
- Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.
