- Daily monitoring of sample scheduling to ensure that samples are analyzed within EPA's and methods’ holding time
- Schedule workload in order to report data within clients’ expected due dates
- Routine sample preparation and analysis according to Standard Methods 846 and EPA methods
- Performs analyst's review of data and QC
- Reviews of QA/QC criteria for batch acceptance
- Improve production strains by molecular biological methods and by traditional mutagenesis and screening.
- Identify and evolve enzymes for increased activity, specificity and selectivity.
- Determine and understand metabolic or reaction pathways and genetically engineer those pathways for improved culture performance and/or to produce new APIs.
- Person will be responsible for but not limit to: a variety of high-complexity, clinical laboratory testing in Molecular biology or Genomic environment.
- Optimize sample preparation, real time PCR and RT-PCR assays for the Gene Expert platform based on design input requirements
- Help develop strategies for development of complex in vitro diagnostic tests
- Prepare and purify DNA and RNA for analysis as appropriate
- Experience with the operation of fluorescence microscopy is a plus.
- Experience with air samples, surface samples, food testing, bacteriology, and mycology is desirable.
- Experience with USP 797 environmental testing, Efficacy Testing, and Biology a plus.
- Preparation and analysis of environmental samples for bacteria and fungi
- Reading and identifying fungi in spore trap and tape samples
Qualifications:
- Four year college in biology or related field Required (masters or PhD preferred)
- Professional Experience in a chemistry position
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
- CA State Drivers license and good driving record Preferred not required.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle of van size for deliveries and pick-ups for extended periods of time.
- Ability to use software applications including MS Word and Excel to perform Data Entry
- The ability to provide excellent customer service and handle client telephone calls in a courteous manner
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have accurate data entry skills
- A minimum typing speed of 40-45 WPM
- The ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Must have strong problem solving skills
- Requires a strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Requires the ability to use computer, keyboard, and operate office equipment.
- Regular activities include frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting and climbing stairs
- Requires close visual acuity for viewing a computer screen and reading, preparing and analyzing data
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate clearly while handling telephone calls and customer requests
- Requires repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers for typing at a standard keyboard
- The ability to lift 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
