The Role
The VISTA Program Manager (VPM) is a grant funded role for the next two years; responsible for overseeing the successful implementation and achievement of program goals for the AmeriCorps VISTA program at ASD. This role ensures the program aligns with organizational objectives, maximizes VISTA member impact, and supports long-term sustainability. The VPM will work closely with AmeriCorps VISTA Portfolio Manager(s), host site supervisors, VISTA leaders, and service members to facilitate program success.
What You’ll Do; Key VISTA Duties and Responsibilities
Program Oversight & Coordination:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the AmeriCorps VISTA program, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for AmeriCorps VISTA Portfolio Manager(s), host site supervisors, VISTA leaders, and service members, providing guidance and support.
- Monitor and track the progress of VISTA members, ensuring that they meet program expectations and contribute to the organization's mission.
- Stay informed on AmeriCorps VISTA rules, regulations, and contract requirements, ensuring compliance with all guidelines.
- Support VISTA members and site supervisors with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting processes.
- Maintain project timelines, monitor program progress, and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Compile data and records for periodic report submissions.
- Lead the preparation and submission of VISTA grant proposals.
Supervision & Support:
- Provide mentorship and direct supervision to VISTA members, ensuring effective role fulfillment and program success.
- Guide VISTA leaders in managing service members, troubleshooting challenges, and fostering continuous professional development.
- Ensure compliance with all AmeriCorps rules governing capacity-building projects.
- Maintain positive communication with supervisors, site personnel, service members, internal departments, and external partners.
Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement:
- Track and assess VISTA members' progress toward their objectives, providing regular updates to the Director of Services.
- Support the creation and implementation of strategies to improve program effectiveness, aligning with organizational goals.
- Analyze key performance metrics to identify opportunities for program improvements.
Collaboration & Community Engagement:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with host site supervisors, VISTA leaders, and other community stakeholders.
- Promote the AmeriCorps VISTA program to internal and external partners, ensuring its growth and sustainability.
- In the future, help facilitate ASD’s expansion to become a lead agency for AmeriCorps VISTA in the region, overseeing and training subrecipient agencies that receive their VISTA members through ASD, increasing community impact and regional program capacity.
Training & Development:
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for VISTA members to ensure their success.
- Lead on-site orientations for AmeriCorps VISTA service members.
- Oversee recruitment, training, evaluation, and retention of VISTA members.

- Supervisory experience in a professional setting, particularly with volunteers or service members.
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with program evaluation and continuous improvement processes.
- Experience with grant management.
- Previous AmeriCorps VISTA experience- highly preferred.
Work Environment & Requirements:
- Full-time, on-site position.
- Regular interaction with VISTA members, ASD staff, and external partners.
- Occasional travel to host sites or community events.
