ACQC is a Queens-based 501(C)(3) organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive services and advocacy for individuals, families, and communities infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, while simultaneously providing prevention and education services for our clients and at-risk communities. ACQCoffers the following programs and services to over 14,000 clients per year:Behavioral Health, Case Management, Legal Services, Harm Reduction Services, Housing Placement, and HIV/HEP-C/STI testing.
ACQC seeks a results-driven Director of Development to manage its fundraising and communications efforts to elevate the organization's visibility, engagement, and revenue. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Development Director will oversee fundraising from a variety of sources, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, individuals, and events. Building this position from the ground up, the Director of Development will design and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting stewardship programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop short- and long-term strategies that emphasize a diverse funding portfolio while overseeing the solicitation and acquisition of philanthropic resources from multiple funding streams, including foundations, corporations, government agencies, individuals, and special events.
- Develop communication strategies and proposals that combine data, storytelling, digital media, and content development to donors, prospective donors, and other ACQC constituencies. This may include proposals, appeal letters, newsletters, email solicitations, website content, and other online media, as well as oversight of the acknowledgement process for all donations and grants.
- Lead the institutional giving program by partnering with program officers and corporate representatives from organizations that provide financial or in-kind support to nonprofits through grants, sponsorships, matching gifts, scholarships, or volunteer-based programs, aiming to foster community good, boost employee engagement, and build the agency's visibility and reputation.
- Initiate and develop ACQC's first Advisory Committee. Meet with the Advisory Committee on development and engagement issues. Prepare fundraising reports for ACQC Management, the Advisory Committee, and ACQC's parent organization, AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
- Work closely with program and finance staff and agency leadership to ensure that programs are accurately described in proposals, RFPs, and reports used in site visits and management meetings. Collaborate with program staff, finance staff, and management when preparing grant applications, ensuring that required documentation is collected and submitted on time.
- Development of databases to ensure that recording and reporting adhere to best practices, utilizing data to achieve results.
- Oversee planning and implementation of significant events, including the annual ACQC Gala. Also, manage smaller micro-events, to identify and cultivate potential donors, and gain community support. Collaborate and motivate ACQC staff members, volunteers, and vendors, who are integral to these events.
- Work with a variety of vendors, including graphic designers, venues, printers, photographers, etc.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by the Executive Director.
Education, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field.
- Three to five years of development experience with a nonprofit organization.
- Two years' experience writing narrative grant reports, with a focus on acquiring grants from governmental agencies, foundations, and corporations.
- Supervisory experience preferred; ability to engage and inspire people of all levels.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and the communities most affected.
- Must possess strong organizational, planning, and research skills. Must have the ability to prioritize and manage tasks to meet required objectives. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be culturally competent and able to work with individuals from non-traditional backgrounds in terms of gender identity and sexuality. Must be able to convey sensitivity in a non-judgmental manner.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range is $90,000 to $100,000 commensurate with experience.
