Electro-Mechanical Technician

SCOPE:

The essential job function is performing the mechanical/electrical assembly and disassembly of production machinery. This includes modifying existing customer products and building new products to customer specifications. 

EDUCATION:

Associate’s degree from a trade school, community college or equivalent experience. 

EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENTS:

5 years of capital equipment experience. 

Extensive knowledge of electrical components, schematics and symbols. Ability and knowledge to use hand and power tools, large assembly drawings, and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

Thorough understanding of assembly processes to include pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical and mechanical assembly. Use of torque setting equipment, alignment levels and lasers. Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment to include lathes, mills, surface grinders, angle grinders, polishers, and welding equipment. Should have above average experience with use of fork trucks, boom/scissor lifts, and overhead cranes. 

Ability to use electrical testing and diagnostic equipment, along with all hand tools and power tools associated with electrical assembly. 

Physical – stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, bend to the floor and lift up to 60 pounds, without difficulty. Periodically laying prone under machinery or on knees for completion of assembly tasks. Some ladder climbing. Periodically required to work at heights of 15 to 20 feet for machine wiring, assembly or trouble shooting purposes. Visual acuity for reading machine dial gauges, electrical diagrams, blueprints and precision measuring instruments is important. Auditory acuity to monitor machine sound changes in order to diagnose and remedy equipment problems. Subject to operating large machines, physical exposure from moving equipment and machine parts. Skin subject to oil exposure. 

Mental – subject to frequent overtime requirements, changes in job duties and assignments (often without much notice), constant or frequent deadline pressures. Ability to consider alternatives and make decisions. Capability of using shop floor computer terminals and data recording. 

Other –Ability to work effectively as part of a work team. Good interpersonal and oral communication skills. 

This position requires the individual, upon reaching a certain skill level, to occasionally support Installation activities at customer sites. “Trouble-shooting” and “periodic maintenance” stints for Service may be requested as well.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Prior to assembly, checks components against Bill of Materials (BOM) to assure all parts are accounted for. 

Assembles electrical and mechanical components according to customer specifications and engineering drawings. 

Responsible for wiring according to schematic developed by Electrical Engineering. 

Start-up and debug production machinery, assuring that voltages are correct for all components. Modify equipment as necessary. 

Communicate with Senior Group Leader to provide information regarding opportunities for product/process improvement and to report changes necessary to prints as a result of design errors. 

Completes daily time sheets to assure that the appropriate time is charged to the proper job. 

Conducts trial run for Engineering or Sales. Can make necessary changes to the machine as a result of the trial run. 

Assists Senior Group Leader with training and direction of assembly department Trainees. 

Performs other duties as assigned

Continually focused on role as a team member, in terms of communication, work standards, et al. 

Incumbent works successfully with a moderate degree of supervision. Minimal supervision is required once incumbent is fully trained.. 

Exposed to minimal degree to confidential information (e.g. Engineering prints).

Interfaces with other assembly personnel, machine shop, engineering, and the sales organization.
