What are the responsibilities and job description for the MS / HS Vocal Music position at AHSTW Community School District?
AHSTW Community School District is currently accepting applications for the position of HS Vocal Music for the 2026-2027 school year.
Purpose Statement:
- The position of MS / HS Vocal Music teacher has been established to introduce the world of Vocal music to our students and to develop their interests and abilities while encouraging each individual to participate in music as a life-long activity.
Qualifications:
- 145 5-12 Music
Length of Service:
- The number of workdays are established by the Master agreement [189 days] and completed upon the design of our school calendar.
Supervisor and Evaluation:
- Under the general supervision of the building principal.
- In accordance with state code, Iowa Teaching Standards and local performance criteria.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers approved curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives to promote learning in the area of vocal music.
- Facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through daily instruction and modeling;
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to implement positive learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and encourages individualized, small group instruction and large group instruction to develop our student abilities.
- Providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Continues to engage in professional development activities such as attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings to acquire knowledge to enhance student learning.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures student conduct meets the expectations of our school’s standards and school district policies to ensure a positive learning environment for all students.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level and department, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
- Leads High School vocal music, swing choir and musical.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as the ability to differentiate instruction based upon student needs.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
Qualifications Profile:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Iowa Teaching License with 5-12 Music Endorsement required.
- Knowledge of and experience using music technology.
- Prior experience developing student leadership and recruiting students to the vocal music program.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 20 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and kneeling.
