The Operational Asset Risk Manager's role is to improve our Asset Integrity Management, hence making sure our most important assets have the ability to perform its required function effectively and efficiently whilst protecting health, safety and the environment, which in turn means ensuring that the people, systems, processes, and resources that deliver integrity are in place, in use and will perform when required over the whole life cycle of the asset (license to operate).
This individual will operationally ensure local regulations and group level Asset Risk management guidelines are followed with focus improving security (access of sites), protect assets by improving conditions of our equipment such as for instance Boilers, BLRB, Turbines and other pressurised vessel assets, from fire, Natural Hazards and any other unplanned and unbudgeted downtime, across all of the Ahlstrom sites.
This role can sit at any of our Wisconsin plant locations - Kaukauna, De Pere, Mosinee, Rhinelander or Stevens Point.

Main Responsibilities
- Initiates policies to comply with safety legislation and industry practices. Develops and administers risk-management and loss-prevention programs. This position acts as the liaison to attorneys, insurance companies and individuals, investigating any incidences that may result in asset loss. Research and reports on the most cost effective plans to minimize asset liability. In addition, Operational Asset Risk Manager reviews and analyzes risk management programs for the effectiveness of coverage and to reduce costs and losses.
- Operational Asset Risk Manager is dedicated in assisting plants on asset risk issues, builds ecosystem around increasing competence jointly with the HSE network and the plants that own the related improvement activities.
- Improvement Promoter: identify, drive and promote improvement initiatives across Divisions/BUs/Plants on reliability, driving results in collaboration with VP HSE, Asset Development and VP Ops of each Division.
- Ability to work cross-functional in the divisions and key first line of defense contacts at varying levels within the organization;
- Monitor and govern adherence to assessment program elements;
- Support local risk teams with ad-hoc deliverables and investigations;
- Create, edit and manage multiple facets of risk reporting;
- Execute processes and deliverables that support internal team governance processes;
- Providing the first line of defense with guidance relative risk assessment programs;
- Test controls and track issues;
- Provide reporting on assessment results;
- Manage, implement and deliver on a subset of the program deliverables;
- Manage tasks and activities related to risk management initiatives;
- Provide excellent service to both business partners and the COO organization.
- Ensure the execution of Management of Change (MOC) including evaluation of the health, safety and environment potential consequences of technical changes
- Support relations with the authorities as well as external service providers in case of need
- Monitor Insurance site inspection reports and follow up on Top Risk under asset integrity (i.e., pressurized vessel risk), other physical risk as well as Human Element Recommendations
- Facilitate monthly meetings with designated regional or divisional perimeter
- Be a go-to person for Machine Safety Best Practice items
- Implement condition and structural health monitoring (CSM)
- Ensure inspection intervals are not exceeded
- Perform risk-based inspection (RBI)
- Conduct life extension studies
- Perform fitness-for-service reviews
- Conduct failure investigation studies
- Monitor and ensure procedures are maintained and implemented
- Participate in preparation of budgets for inspection
- Technical specialist (5y ) with strong knowledge in paper production or process industry and relevant improvement initiatives. Knowledge of specific business lines, products and function services is a plus, and in particular the European
- Knowledge: strong domain know-how in driving asset risk improvement, with knowledge both on technical, regulatory and industry standard issues around pressure vessels, boilers and power generation equipment.
- Willingness to travel: expected to visit plants on demand. Flexible and able to adopt to changing circumstances and requirements
- Tech Consulting Skills: Technical expertise (engineer preferred) with ability to breakdown complex problems adding technical expertise to the solution
- Team player with strong soft skills: ability to interact effectively with people at all levels
- Strong communication skills with analytical mindset: Strong communication skills required with fluency in English combined with strong problem solving and analytical skills
