What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Volleyball Coach position at Ahfachkee Day School?
The incumbent in this position is responsible for leading, organizing, instructing, and developing the Ahfachkee School Volleyball Program. The Head Volleyball Coach provides instruction in the fundamental and advanced skills of volleyball while promoting student-athlete growth, discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, academic accountability, and school pride. The individual ensures compliance with all applicable federal requirements, Seminole Tribe of Florida policies, Ahfachkee School policies, Athletic Department procedures, student handbook expectations, and any applicable competition, league, tournament, or event rules. The incumbent provides appropriate safety instruction, supervises practices and competitions, monitors student-athlete conduct, and makes safety checks on equipment, facilities, and playing areas to ensure the overall safety of students. This position reports to the Athletic Director or designee and is an as-needed, non-exempt position.
- Ensures adherence to all Ahfachkee School policies, Seminole Tribe of Florida policies, Athletic Department procedures, administrative rules, student handbook expectations, and applicable competition, league, tournament, or event rules relating to student participation in athletics.
- Supports school-based athletic eligibility expectations, including academic standing, attendance, behavior, sportsmanship, and student conduct requirements.
- Attends required school, athletic department, safety, compliance, professional development, and coaching trainings as assigned.
- Maintains awareness of applicable rules and expectations for any league, tournament, event, or outside competition in which Ahfachkee School participates.
- Communicates with the Athletic Director regarding any questions related to student-athlete eligibility, team participation, competition rules, safety concerns, or policy interpretation.
- Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, techniques, strategies, conditioning methods, and player development.
- Knowledge of Ahfachkee School athletic expectations, student handbook requirements, athletic eligibility procedures, attendance expectations, behavioral standards, and student-athlete participation rules.
- Knowledge of Seminole Tribe of Florida history, culture, and organization.
- Knowledge of educational and instructional principles and practices.
- Knowledge of ethical practices and guidelines in education and athletics.
- Ability to plan and conduct organized, safe, and effective practices.
- Ability to motivate individual student-athletes and the team as a whole.

- High School diploma or equivalent GED is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience coaching, facilitating, instructing, or participating in organized volleyball or athletic sports is required.
- Prior coaching experience at the middle school, high school, club, recreation, or comparable level is preferred.
- School-approved coaching, safety, or sport-specific certification/training is preferred or may be required as determined by Ahfachkee School, the Athletic Department, Human Resources, or applicable competition guidelines.
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and other required athletic safety certifications may be required as determined by the school, Athletic Department, Human Resources, or applicable safety procedures.
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License is required.
- The incumbent must demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel to all locations and work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, practices, competitions, tournaments, meetings, and athletic events.
- The incumbent in this position will work indoors and outdoors.
- While working indoors, duties may be performed in a gymnasium, athletic facility, classroom, office, or school setting. Indoor work may include sitting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers, equipment, uniforms, and athletic supplies.
- While working outdoors, the incumbent may be exposed to South Florida weather conditions such as heat, humidity, rain, dirt, and loud noises.
- The incumbent may also be exposed to athletic competition environments, crowd noise, travel conditions, and occasional high-pressure situations involving student supervision, injuries, parent/guardian communication, and game-day operations.
