Full Job Overview:
The Pizza Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking Ah Beetz pizzas according to the company’s recipes, quality standards, and authentic New Haven Pizza preparation methods. This position plays an essential role in delivering consistently excellent food while maintaining a clean, organized, safe, and efficient kitchen.
The ideal candidate works well in a fast-paced environment, pays close attention to quality and presentation, communicates effectively with the kitchen and service teams, and takes pride in every pizza served.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pizza Preparation and Cooking
- Prepare pizza dough, sauce, cheese, meats, vegetables, and other ingredients according to Ah Beetz recipes and portion standards.
- Stretch, shape, sauce, top, and cook pizzas according to established procedures.
- Operate pizza ovens safely and maintain proper cooking temperatures.
- Monitor pizzas throughout the cooking process to ensure proper bake, appearance, texture, and doneness.
- Cut, finish, garnish, package, and plate pizzas accurately.
- Prepare menu items according to customer orders and special instructions.
- Maintain consistency in portion sizes, ingredient placement, cooking times, and presentation.
- Immediately communicate concerns regarding product quality, oven performance, or ingredient availability to management.
Food Quality and Order Accuracy
- Review kitchen tickets carefully and prepare orders accurately.
- Follow established recipes and never alter ingredients, portions, or preparation methods without management approval.
- Ensure dine-in, takeout, catering, and delivery orders are prepared correctly and on time.
- Confirm allergy notifications and dietary requests with the manager on duty before preparing the order.
- Prevent cross-contamination by following proper food-handling procedures.
- Notify management of incorrect, damaged, expired, or poor-quality products.
- Minimize food waste and properly record waste when required.
Kitchen Preparation
- Complete assigned opening, closing, and shift-preparation duties.
- Prepare and stock the pizza station before and during service.
- Maintain appropriate levels of dough, sauce, cheese, toppings, boxes, utensils, and other supplies.
- Rotate food using the first-in, first-out method.
- Properly label, date, cover, and store all prepared food.
- Monitor ingredient levels and notify management before products run out.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and restaurant supplies.
- Assist with food preparation for anticipated business volume, promotions, catering orders, and special events.
Cleanliness and Sanitation
- Keep the pizza station, ovens, preparation tables, refrigeration units, floors, utensils, and surrounding areas clean and organized.
- Follow all cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures.
- Wash, rinse, and sanitize equipment and food-contact surfaces as required.
- Maintain proper handwashing and glove-use practices.
- Follow all local health department regulations and company food-safety standards.
- Immediately clean spills and address safety hazards.
- Properly dispose of trash, grease, cardboard, and food waste.
- Complete assigned deep-cleaning duties.
Equipment and Workplace Safety
- Safely operate pizza ovens, mixers, slicers, refrigeration equipment, knives, and other kitchen equipment.
- Use all equipment only for its intended purpose and according to company procedures.
- Report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment immediately.
- Follow burn-prevention, knife-safety, lifting, and fire-safety procedures.
- Never attempt unauthorized repairs.
- Wear required uniforms, non-slip shoes, protective equipment, and hair restraints.
- Maintain a safe and professional work environment at all times.
Teamwork and Guest Service
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with cooks, cashiers, servers, delivery personnel, managers, and other team members.
- Coordinate with the front-of-house team to support accurate and timely order delivery.
- Assist other kitchen stations when assigned.
- Respond professionally to corrections, coaching, and operational direction.
