Cloud Platform Engineer
12 months long contract--may hire
w2 only
Must Haves:
- Minimum of 7 years in cloud engineering, SRE, or platform engineering roles.
- At least 3 years of deep, hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform architecture and services, particularly GKE/Kubernetes.
- Demonstrated success in a technical leadership or principal engineer capacity
- Expert-level knowledge of Terraform for provisioning and managing complex cloud infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in GKE/Kubernetes, including cluster management, networking (e.g., Istio), and deployment tools (Helm).
- Strong proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker).
- Advanced scripting and automation skills using languages like Python or Go.
- Experience designing and implementing robust monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Google Cloud's operations suite).
- Solid understanding of Google Cloud Platform services (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC, IAM, etc.).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools.
- Strong leadership capabilities with a proven ability to mentor and elevate a technical team.
- An analytical and engineering-driven approach to problem-solving.

Day to Day:
- Design, build, and manage our Google Cloud Platform infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, with expert-level proficiency in Terraform.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated automation and scripting (Python, Bash) to streamline operations, eliminate manual tasks, and enhance platform efficiency.
- Lead the engineering of our GKE/Kubernetes environments, focusing on cluster architecture, deployment strategies, and scalability.
- Lead and mentor a team of platform engineers
- Serve as the primary technical authority, providing guidance on advanced engineering challenges, architectural decisions, and IaC best practices.
- Conduct technical deep-dive sessions, code reviews, and architectural reviews to ensure the highest quality standards.
- Act as the final escalation point for the most complex and critical platform issues, performing deep-dive analysis to engineer permanent solutions.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) efforts, moving beyond incident resolution to designing and implementing preventative measures and enhancing system resilience.
- Proactively monitor, analyze, and tune the performance of our Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes environments to ensure maximum availability and efficiency, utilizing tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Google Cloud's operations suite.
- Partner with development, security, and operations teams to align on infrastructure strategy and ensure seamless service delivery.
- Drive change and release management processes, with a focus on automating deployments and ensuring the stability of the production environment.
- Contribute to the platform roadmap and participate in scrum meetings to prioritize engineering efforts and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, IaC standards, and operational playbooks.
