Tool & Die Repair - 2nd shift

JOB SUMMARY:

This role analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Work from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating dies or assemblies
• Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies, based upon specifications
• Set up and operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, CNC machines and grinders to cut, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
• File, grind, shim and adjust different parts to properly fit them together
• Fit and assemble parts, repair or modify dies, gauges and tools using machine tools and hand tools
• Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity and defects
• Lift, position, and secure machine parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, V-blocks or angle plates
• Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes and rulers
• Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rulers and hand tools
• Design jigs, fixtures and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products
• Assist in die changes, first piece approval
• Drive a forklift and/or operate overhead crane to transport dies as well as other heavy equipment

• Additional duties with similar responsibilities may be assigned as necessary

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Minimum 5 years' experience with die repair or new build
• Preferred experience in a production environment
• Journeyman's card in tool and die making or machining, with deep draw die experience preferred, not required
• Welding experience preferred, not required
• Basic knowledge of mathematics

• Able to stand/walk for the duration of shift (8 hours)
• Able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.
• Able to perform frequent repetitive motions.
• Able to withstand noisy environment.
