Deseret Ranches is seeking hardworking college students for immersive seasonal opportunities at ranch operations across the United States. Responsibilities:
- Take part in key seasonal cattle operations, including calving, branding, breeding, weaning, and shipping.
- Perform livestock care including doctoring, feeding, and monitoring cattle health.
- Help rotate herds, set up fencing, and maintain water systems.
- Support fence repair, equipment checks, and ranch facility maintenance.
- Participate daily crew operations.
- Stay engaged, ask questions, and take ownership of learning opportunities.
- Learn our ranch’s values, Standard Operating Procedures, and safety expectations.
- Commit to a best-in-class safety culture.
Qualifications:
- Current college student or recent college graduate.
- Available to work 3 to 4 months beginning in January, May, or August of each year.
- Cattle and horseback experience with a strong desire to work in production agriculture.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the role.
- Able to reliably get to and from the internship location, per the assigned schedule. The company will provide a stipend to cover relocation, but the intern is responsible for their own daily transportation.
- Interns may receive a bonus at the end of their internship, to reward each month worked. To qualify, interns must complete all items on the Intern Checklist and leave their living quarters clean.
Physical Demands:
- Work involves but is not limited to lifting, bending, carrying, walking, twisting, holding, squeezing, kneeling, sitting, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, working at heights, repetitively throughout the work period.
- Must be able/willing to continually lift up to 75 lbs. Push, pull, and drag up to 200 lbs and work in situations involving a leaned over or squatted position. Walk and stand for 9-to-12 hours per day. Ride a horse for 6-to-8 hours per day. Work outside in year-round weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain. Work an average 45-hour week with an average 9-hour workday, which can vary frequently. Tolerate, learn, and perform castration, euthanasia, vaccinations, dehorning, ear tagging, ear notching, branding, taking blood samples, and other procedures normal to animal husbandry. Work weekends and holidays when required.
