What are the responsibilities and job description for the DCT - L1 Manager Trainee position at AgReserves, Inc.?
Deseret Ranches is a high-potential and teachable Manager Trainee who will assist the Cattle Unit Managers in various technical training and supervisory assignments in preparation of becoming Unit Managers. The ideal candidate is one who performs quality work, ensures accuracy, low downtime, is a team player, and can successfully accomplish assigned tasks with limited supervision.
Manager Trainees will receive 12-18 months of formal training followed by 6-12 months of work experience at an assigned cattle unit, allowing a thorough education in all essential departments of a large cattle production system. The intent of the program is for the Trainees to develop a strong understanding of the tactical operations on their path towards becoming successful future strategic leaders within the division.
· Assist Local Management with accomplishing goals by supporting areas of assignment in a variety of ranch departments including cattle, wildlife, citrus, housing, pasture, shop, and office tasks.
· Assure that cattle have adequate stock water, pasture fences are maintained and sufficient forage is available to meet performance goals.
· Observe cow and forage conditions; provide feedback to the foreman to assist in grazing management.
· Continuously improve skills and professional self-development by participating in training activities.
· Ensure required reports and records, including inventory, are maintained accurately and timely.
· Maintain and continuously improve property in addition to safeguarding the unit. Tasks may include r epairing infrastructure such as fences, cow pens, facilities, vehicles, implements, and equipment.
· Represent the local ranch, Deseret Ranches and AgReserves professionally at all times.
· Build strong professional relationships with all members of the Cattle Division, as well as lease holders, other ranch customers, the local community, governmental agencies, and the cattle industry.
· Champion a best-in-class safety program by promoting consistent safety training attendance, compliance with all OSHA and company/industry policies, as well as encouraging the use of PPE and adherence to all other EHS programs.
· Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agronomy or related majors. Current student acceptable.
· Ag background and ranching experience or previous internship(s) at feedlots/farms/ranches.
· Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
· Ability to earn BQA Certification and learn to safely operate all required machinery/tools.
· Skilled in saddling and riding a horse. Ability to ride for 6-8hrs per day.
· Able to tolerate, learn, and perform castrations, euthanize, vaccinate, dehorn, ear tag, notch, brand, take blood samples, and other procedures common practice to animal husbandry.
· Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
· Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which includes lifting and carrying repetitively up to 75lbs, push/pull/dragging up to 200lbs, and walking/standing for 9-12hrs per day.
· Able to work outside in year-round weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain.
· Must be able to accommodate the regular farm schedule of 45-50 hours per week, which may include days, nights, holidays, and weekends, per business needs.
