What are the responsibilities and job description for the Non-Profit Caregiver Support Group Facilitator position at Aging Services Inc?
Job Summary
10 hours per week. No weekends. No holidays.
The Support Group Facilitator is responsible for facilitating support groups that provide education, encouragement, and connection to caregivers, older adults, and grandparents raising grandchildren. This position ensures a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where participants can share experiences, learn coping strategies, and access community resources. The facilitator will guide discussions, maintain group boundaries, provide emotional support, and help participants connect with appropriate Aging Services programs and external resources.
What you’ll do
- Lead in-person and/or virtual (Zoom) 12 support group sessions per year for caregivers and older adults raising children. Assist in conducting 2 4-hour trainings for Caregivers, 1 in person and 1 via Zoom. Assist in conducting 2 4-hours trainings for older adults raising children, 1 in person and 1 via Zoom.
- Create a welcoming and respectful environment where participants feel heard and supported.
- Encourage group interaction while maintaining healthy boundaries and confidentiality.
- Use discussion guides or approved curriculum to focus on topics such as burnout prevention, stress management, emotional wellness, and caregiving resources.
- Identify and manage group dynamics to ensure all members have the opportunity to participate.
- Support participants in setting personal goals for well-being and follow up on progress when appropriate.
Complete and submit all documentation, attendance logs, and feedback forms in a timely manner.
- Participate in facilitator training, supervision meetings, and continuing education opportunities.
- Provide feedback to Aging Services about participant trends and support needs.
Basic qualifications
- Proven experience in clinical counseling or social work with a focus on group therapy.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire participants.
Preferred qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Gerontology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience facilitating groups, providing peer support, or working with older adults, caregivers, or families.
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive topics and maintain confidentiality.
- Compassionate, non-judgmental, and able to foster a sense of community among participants.
- Comfortable using technology for virtual meetings (Zoom, email, online forms).
