Position Overview
AgileCap is seeking a highly experienced Senior Underwriter to lead underwriting and credit decisioning for our small business lending platform. This individual will own complex transaction analysis, structure debt solutions, and drive credit quality across the portfolio, while working closely with senior management to support disciplined growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead underwriting for $500K – $5MM loan transactions across small and medium-sized businesses
- Perform advanced financial analysis, including cash flow modeling, DSCR, leverage, and scenario analysis
- Assess borrower creditworthiness, collateral, and risk factors; assign and defend risk ratings
- Structure loans (terms, covenants, collateral) to optimize risk-adjusted returns
- Prepare and present credit memos and recommendations to internal decision-makers
- Partner with origination/sales to evaluate deals from initial screening through approval
- Provide oversight of credit analysis (not just review/verification) and ensure analytical rigor across the team
- Monitor portfolio performance and proactively identify emerging risks or problem credits
- Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory expectations
- Mentor and develop junior underwriters and analysts
Required Experience
- 7–10 years of underwriting / credit experience in loan underwriting or specialty finance
- Direct experience underwriting small business loans ($500K – $5MM range)
- Strong background in non-real estate collateral lending and term loan structures
- Proven ability to independently analyze, structure, and approve complex transactions
- Experience managing or leading analysts / junior underwriters
Core Skills
- Deep financial statement analysis and cash flow underwriting
- Strong credit judgment and risk assessment ability
- Expertise in loan structuring, covenants, and collateral analysis
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication (especially for credit memos)
- Ability to manage multiple deals in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA or CFA a plus)
- Experience in insurance agency lending or specialty finance
- Experience working directly with credit committees or investment teams
