Description: We are seeking a Systems Administrator with strong Linux fundamentals who brings a modern, automation-first mindset to support a Government client. This role is responsible for maintaining and supporting production systems while leveraging containerization and infrastructure-as-code practices to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency. This is a hands-on role for someone who can both keep systems running and continuously improve how they are managed through automation and tooling.
Systems Administrator Job Duties
Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems in production environments.
Deploy, manage, and support containerized applications using Docker and/or Podman.
Support container orchestration platforms such as Docker Compose (deployment, troubleshooting, and operations).
Automate system configuration and provisioning using Ansible.
Develop and maintain scripts (Bash, Python) to automate routine operational tasks.
Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents across infrastructure and application layers.
Maintain system security, including patching, access controls, and certificate management.
Provide support for Java applications using the Spring framework running on Tomcat with Nginx.
Document system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
Required Qualifications
Experience working in heavily regulated environments. 3 - 7 years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator. Strong experience with Linux system administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, or similar). Hands-on experience with containerization using Docker or Podman. Experience with automation tools such as Ansible. Proficiency in scripting (Bash and/or Python). Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.).
Experience with SELinux, system hardening, and security best practices.
Experience managing internal certificate authorities and trust chains.
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Grafana, ELK, Datadog, etc.).
Experience supporting both operations (O&M) and development (modernization) efforts.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including experience with Docker networking.
Education Requirements: Bachelors or masters degree in information systems, information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, business and management, or related field.
Security Clearance Requirements: None required upon applying, but must be willing to undergo a background check to obtain a Public Trust security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen.
